Unhappy just bought a s5 n/a having major issues.

Well its been ALONG time sense i have been on here. Anyways i just picked up a 1990 s5 n/a. It ran fine when i test drove it. I was on the way home and the radio started to flicker on and off. Then the the lights, windsheld wipers started to slow down. So im like wtf?

So im down the road and i punch it in 2nd. And after about 6k rpms its like its bogging. It will backfire and act like there is a brick wall in front of it. So i pull over and turn it off. Nothing is overheating...oil pressure is good.

I try to start it up and it wont start. Battery is good. finally i get it to start and when i drive off it bogs so bad that i can barley even put pressure on the gas pedal. Then the lights go out. So im thinking its just a bad alternator? Im not sure

So i had to have tow truck drop me off. Sucks

Any ideas??

What is the voltage when this happens? Check the main ground and your battery terminals.

well it wont start right now...i just tried to start it and the volts were between 8 and 12. So im assuming thats 10.

The battery looks brand new also and everything seems to be on there tight.

Try jump starting it and see what happens.

I believe that when the alternator goes, the idiot lights all come on while the car is still running. Did that happen?

Hmm, yeah sounds exactly like a bat alt... my mom had this happen to her on the way back from Chicago about a month ago. It was the alternator.
