I just bought a '91 RX-7 non-turbo, and I was wondering what I could do (before purchasing any parts) to increase general performance. Any help is welcome, thanks.

 

General Maintanence. Oil Change, Spark Plug and Wire change, belts, fluids, fuel filter. and so on. Depending on what condition the car is in.

 

Before doing anything get the full 60K mile service/tuneup and fuel injector cleaning (if it's not included in the tuneup). After that if your TPS has more than 85K miles on it you might have that replaced.

Once the above is done, you're looking at purchasing parts like a full exhaust system, full intake system, etc..

If you do a search for "performance" or "faster" or "upgrades" you'll find good information on upgrades.
