just bought 88ae need help!!!!!
Hello all I just recieved my tII ae and the car has 90 psi on the front and 80ish on the rear. It will hold idle at 900 rpm's. But the whole car shakes. no power and very sluggish on the revs. It acts like a blown rotor except it will hold idle and doesn't back fire at 3k like a blown rotor. When I hard rev it it will back fire and it floods everytime I shut it off. I only had a standard compression gauge so I tested for compression. I then pulled the spark plugs and listened for even pulses and both rotors had them. I got strong phhh.....phhhh.....phhhh on each rotor. I don't Know where to start. Either running horribly rich or the timing is way off. anyone had this problem or is my engine shot. Thanks again guys..... Gary

welcome to the 10th AE owners league now you get ot have more options, same problems tho.
but i would first do a tune up to eliminate some variables then go from there

1. put a timing light on it (quick and easy)
2. check for vac leaks
3. get someone to stand behind it and smell the exhaust, see if its running super rich.
4. check for spark power/ examine plugs
5. check for 12V at the leading coil
6. make sure exhaust isnt clogged
7. check ecu error codes.
8. if none of those point you to the problem, go cry for a while, then post back up on here.

On the timing light I couldn't see anything...... no marks, but it's dirty and I'm color blind (have to get someone to do that one for me)
Found 3 vac leaks and repaired them but I'm sure there might be another one
exhaust smells ok,
replaced plugs and wires and have spark
Need to check for 12v on the leading coil but it is firing
Exhaust might be clogged..... I'll have to check that one
thanks for your help so far guys. I bought it on the premise that it had a blown engine but that doesn't seem to be the case. thanks for all your help thus far. Gary
