Just bought a 88 TII but need some help.

Yesterday I bought the car and drove it back however the car will almost stall out if I don't give it some gas in neutral. I checked the battery this morning and it was fine. I will change the oil later on today. The lights in the car have some issues though. When I press on the accelerator paddle down while driving there is a LED labeled "FAN” it comes on when the shift light comes on and sometimes it just stay on half way (some what bright). And the charge battery light comes on and off as well. The ABS light pretty much does the same thing. I am wondering if my alternator is out.

There is also a whole in the left exhaust pipe just before the muffler, I will try to patch that up and see if that will affect the idling.

When I unscrew the cap for the oil I can see some rust bubble on the inner walls. Is there a way to safely remove the rust?

One last thing, the shifter is really rubbery, it doesn't grind but I can move it around when it is still in the gate. And for some reason the fifth gear is way over to the right top and after I shifted in the gate it pops out a little but it is still in the gate. I guess I need a new shift bushing?

Please give me some pointers to revive this FC thanks guys.

Will the Exhaust fix the idling problem? When the car is up the rev it is fine, however when I am in neutral the the rpm will drop and bog down. I have to keep reving it to keep the rpm up. I ordered a rebuilt alternator just now and some new sparkplugs and wires. I am hoping the alternator will do the trick. Or do you guys think the O2 sensor is bad?

do regular maintenance a lot of the time that will cure a few problems. change the plugs wires oil fuel filter all that kinda stuff and see if that helps also check the timing and your bac valve if this is happening when you have a load it could be the bac but you need to eliminate mainenance issues first.

I checked the vaccums, the ones I can see anyway, they look okay. When you say leak do you mean they come off or loose? Will I be able to get to all of them or do I have to remove some parts to get to some? Thanks guys.

Sorry but what is a bac valve? Also what is a TPS? Sorry new to this. I saw a lot of post from searching and have no idea what those acronyms were.

BTW thanks for the welcome chris-reed, I have been busy looking for answers so didn't probably greeted everyone.
