just bought an 87 turbo 2, now some questions

So I just bought a turbo 2 with 144k on the body and 5k on a rebuild. I went to hook up the boost gauge to it and noticed there is no map sensor :-( the car has a micro tech stand alone, so im wondering if it was taken out because of the stand alone. is this a common thing? Where do I hook up the gauge, I noticed the line for the gauge leading to the blow off valve, is that the correct spot for it?

Thanks in advance

So I hooked it up to one of the three nipples on the throttle body that is behind the alternator and now it reads body and no vacuum. I take it I'm getting closet, just have to wait for the car to cool off now, lol

Not every nipple on the intake are vacuums even though they all look the same. Check out the FSM or search for S4 vacuum diagram. The easiest will be to find the nipple that fed the OEM air pressure sensor.

Good luck with your project.

As suggested earlier, there is a lone nipple on the upper intake manifold facing the passenger side strut. That is where the factory sensor connects.

out of the 3 facing the alternator you happened to pick the middle one, which doesnn't read vacuum.

the microtech ECU map sensor is mounted inside the ECU and you shouldn't tap anything into its dedicated vacuum line. ie if your boost gauge line develops a leak it may bleed off boost pressure and cause a lean detonation.

Install at the Turbo line that goes to the waste gate. From turbo, to boost controller, from boost controller to waste gate. Turn the boost controller ALL the way down and turn the boost up as needed.

Yes and no. I spliced that line on the uim to run my boost gauge. As far as the controller goes, splice it in where I said.

This is the line to splice the controller into.

Okay so you plugged it into the turbo itself going from the wastegate

Your boost controller is directional only one way. So this is the direction of the line.
Starting At the turbo:

Turbo to controller,
Controller to waste gate.

done.

Turn the controller all the way down.
Start the car.
Drive and adjust up to desired boost.

Remember your adding length to that line. Keep the lines as short as possible within reason.

Minimal extra lines. I only add about 6" on new lines. But that's just my opinion. I have mine "floating" close to the turbo, but I also have an in cabin adjustment so I never have to touch it under the hood to adjust it. I'll take a picture if I can in a lil bit.

New question now, I have a 4 pound spring in the wastegate right now, I want to get a 15 pound/1 bar spring. I don't know the size of the gate, how do I measure it to order the proper spring?

Oh I got the controller to work, thanks a bunch. The turbo spools up easier now than it did before

make sure you get it tuned ( or verifiy its tuned) correctly before upping the boost!
