Just bought a 2nd Gen.
I currently bought an 87 RX7 with 190,000 miles. It runs an all but it has its share of problems.
Engine will not stay running until warm. Cold start problem.
Weird sounding high pitched whine from tranny from 1st-3rd
but will disappear in 4th. Shifter feels loose but shifting into gears is very tedious. When put into reverse it grinds.
Bouncing idle that goes from 1900-750 rpms repeatedly.
What kind of tune ups should i have done to the car to get it in normal running condition? Oh i also bought valvoline full synthetic gear oil for the tranny. Is this also fine?

This may decrease with synthetic gear oil, may not.

Very typical.

Check for vacuum leaks. They're very common and lead to this problem.

Bearing or gear noise in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th but gone or very less in 4th.<br>Bearings are worn out. Rebuild or replace transmission.

The good thing is that a tranny for a non-turbo RX-7 is pretty cheap used. Try www.thepartstrader.com
The bouncing idle could be from a bad TPS...do a search for it.
