Lightbulb Junkyard S4

Ive been poking around for a used core. The local junkyard has an s4 out of an 87 w/175k on the chassis...no clue what the engine has on it. The guys down at the yard want $300 for it. I didn't ask them about the ECU or anything, just the block I believe,

What would you guys pay for such an item?

nothing. s4 na stuff isnt worth much/anything. if the motor is blown plan on spending $1000 to get it rebuilt. good luck trying to sell any parts from it.

Id love to get a core from another forum member, but finding a forum member in my area (central Texas) that has a core for sale might prove a challenge. I just don't want to pay shipping on an entire block which, from what i saw, can get quite expensive...often times exceeding $300. Shipping goes down on a disassembled block since you can send it in pieces, but whos got a complete, disassembled 13b layin around that they want to sell?

Sounded like the guys at the yard just threw the number $300 at me, they could be talked down I believe. I guess my next step would be a compression test to see if the thing still cranks and isnt locked up...but i doubt that it will. If it doesn't crank, should I take my chances and haggle with them...or will this turn out to be a complete waste of money/time?

no we are saying that most likely a block thats been setting in a yard for even a few months is useless and will probably have no usable parts on it . and that they are so abundant on this forum that people have a tough time selling them.

have u ever thought about shipping the parts in a plastic bin via greyhound its pretty resonable

and about the block when they sit with old coolent in them that isint circulating everything inside becomes rusted and nonviable.
i happen to be selling a complete s4 t2 longblock with everything to install it with new clutch for 1000 obo +shipping even with shipping its still cheapier then u buying a old motor
