Jumpin Wheels-Clutch of Rear End?

I am getting some bad hopping in the rear. Seems to be worse when the car is cold. Releasing the clutch quickly with around 1200 rpms and its not as bad as barely revving when releasing. But its still there.

I had inner tire wear on both rear tires, pretty bad, along with cupping on the front tires. I only noticed after owning the car a month or so. Just put on new tires, balanced and had a 4 wheel alignment, told them to especially check rear toe camber.

Prior to the new rubber I had the entire rear looked over, nothing discovered other than the possibility that the tires were causing it. My other car (garaged) is a 1990 Nissan Maxima with 175,000 miles on the original clutch. I feel I know how to drive a clutch. The maxima is still running great, altho a little body rust. Love the RX-7 tho'.

I am now thinking the clutch is the problem or maybe the shocks. They could be original. Leaning more towards the clutch, but I only know how to drive a clutch, not much about fixing them. Could it be slipping due to age, it is probably original too. My maxima slips alot due to age, but it is driveable. Sorry to ramble but I just wanted to explain fully.

Make sure and DO NOT DO THIS TOO MUCH, as you will snap your differential mount, which is a pain in the *** to replace! Yes, it is the shocks, by the way.

Yeah, I thought it was the shocks. Read in a post somewhere that "wornout shocks on stock springs" will cause it as will "too high of a springweight on good shocks". Think this is also called 'under-damping'.

I think the shocks are original here. Also, read it could be the differential mount. Hope not. Guess I will put out for some new shocks, a real drag after the cost of new tires!

Do you hear a bang in the rear when you let off the gas? That is the tell-tale sign of a bad diff mount.

No, don't hear any bang in the rear. Just the hop-hop of the wheels. If I feather the clutch some and give it alittle gas it is pretty smooth, no hopping. Looks like I am getting some new shocks next week. I know it needs to be fixed ASAP.
