Jspec TII motor on ebay.. whats the deal?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mazda...QQcmdZViewItem

theres the link, what you guys think about these motors, are they worth it? considered reliable ? or will it need to be rebuilt very soon? it seems like a great way to turbo my n/a. without a lot of hassle, unless it needs to be rebuilt of course... then its gonna take some consideration (and more money)

thanks for the help.

If that is indeed the pics of the actual motor, it looks pretty clean. But looks can be decieving. I have heard plenty of stories about JDM motors being junk and needing rebuilds as soon as the buyer recieves it.

Bought 3 j-specs 2 of the 3 were blown. This seller cut and paste a bunch of **** from the internet on the description talking about the CAR (rx-7) and not the engine.

Also 14 day startup guarrantee??? ON HEAD AND BLOCK???

The Rotary doesn't have a head.... All they aare guaranteeing is that the motor will be in one peice, not that it's a good motor. A blown motor will still start up. Pay for a rebuild. Or buy from a reputable shop.

I bought a JDM 13B-T and it looked clean when I got it. I wasn't too pleased about the starter being broken in two peices... but the engine looked good. Haven't had a whole lot of time to get it started or anything because of work and waiting for more parts that I didn't know I needed. Anyway, I was told that JDM engines are in either great condition or fucked. I'll probably get mine rebuilt whether the engine is good or not. I would recommend finding an American 13B-T though.

I recieved 3 engine out of Canada and all of them we're blown. All I can say is beware of some JDM engine sellers because they wan to sell you junk at top dollar. If you want the engine you should try to get a hold of the seller through the phone and ask for a compression check before you go on with the transaction.

I just bought a JDM S5 Turbo engine from this same seller a few weeks ago. Here's what I've found thus far:

The Good:
The deal was made very easily; the seller answered all my emails and phones calls and made prompt responses.
The engine was shipped the same day that I made payment (via a credit card); I got the name of the shipper and the tracking number that same day and was able to follow the progress of the engine to my house. It took four days to make it from Texas to Arizona.
The engine was very well protected and packaged.
The engine was exactly as it appeared in the pictures.
I got the engine, tranny, ECU, and engine harness for a reasonable price.
The engine turns over by hand and "feels" like it has compression.

The Bad.
The engine was missing the up-pipe from the compressor to the IC. Going back and looking at the pics, I noticed that the up-pipe was missing in the pictures. I'm still looking over the engine and seeing what else, if anything, is missing. Then I'll go back to the supplier and see if he'll make it right. That said, everything excep the up-pipe "seems" to be there.

The Unknown.
It will be a couple of months before I am able to get the engine installed and fired up. Don't know yet if it runs or not, but I am optimistic.

Bottom Line:
This seller seems to be OK and the price wasn't bad.

Buying JSPEC engines isn't a bad thing, I got mine and daily drove it for 2 years without any issues, it still runs awesome today. Just know that it is a risk and ya might have to get it built.

good luck, have fun

Better yet buy from me. I will match that guys price and my motors are tested (TESTED BY ME) I will only sell an engine that makes 100psi or better compression on all 6 apex faces.

I have the same series 4 TII motor and trans ( No ecu or harness..sorry)

Or if you want a longblock core motor, I have that too.. Maybe you want to tear it down, rebuid/port it??

Here's one more story. I saw a very clean JDM engine on eBay from JDM Engines Corp (jdmenginescorp.com) and put in my bid. Paid 15 C notes and received a piece of JUNK that looked *nothing* like the photos.
David at JDM Engines told me, in effect, too bad; I should have asked if the pictures (6 of them) were of the engine i was buying and since i didn't it was just my tough luck. He kept insisting that it was my fault he sold me scrap while showing me pictures of a fine engine.
Those guys are theives. Anyway, my mechanic did an examination of the engine and said it had close to 150000 miles (the ad said 40 - 50 thousand), that it had a very high-dollar racing clutch (totally shot of course) along with other racing parts and that it had "no value beyond scrap".
Never again. If I ever make it to Dallas, you'll read about what happens in the papers

I highly recommend this guy, just got my motor from him and tossed it in this last weekend. Motor has awesome compression on both rotors and all faces. I haven't fired it up yet because I still need a BOV and a TID, but I'm pretty optimistic about it running just fine.
