Johnny Boost's FC Build
Well now that I'm really building this car and parts are coming together I figured i'd post up pictures and start documenting the build.
Originally I had planned on building one of my 1st gens. I was going to swap the subframe with an FC subframe and run FC suspension. So I started off with HKS Hiper Max Coilovers then found a FC in town that didn't have an engine but had a subframe and rack and pinion that I wanted.
The FC was an 87 GTu Hardtop... I know that that doesn't seem right but the car has the fixed caliper, five lug wheels and the aero by the rear wheels (which is up for sale). Anyways, I bought the car from a kid for $200. The kid who owned it before me didn't know jack... or so I've gathered.he pulled the engine and rather than disconnecting the wire harness he cut it.
Also some of the interior pieces that he was taking out rather than unbolting them and popping clips he just tore them off. So I don't think he had the knowledge to swap the hubs and suspension into it.
While the car sat on the street in front of his house it got ran into by a backhoe messing up the hood and driver side fender.

So I bought the car and decided that rather than building up the 83 FB that needed a lot of work, I'd just go with the FC which had more options and better performance.
So i loaded the car on to my trailer and took it over to my families shop at our ranch.
There I've been working on gutting the engine bay.
I decided that because of the cut harness and that many 2nd gens have electrical issues I decided to remove the stock harness through out the car and rewire the things I needed and wanted.

My grandfather used to breed and raise quarter horses on our ranch before he passed away. Some of his horses were champion race horses. So I figured that now that we no longer raise the horses I'll introduce a new type of horsepower to our ranch.
My goal for this car is to make over 500 horsepower and beat the fastest rotary powered RX7 in Colorado down the quarter mile. However I'm primarily building this car to be able to drift. So much focus will go into the suspension and brakes along with much work to the turbo engine.
This car WILL be a beast.

So I began working on the car. I knew I want to make big boost which in turn means big power. So I'll be rebuilding the engine no matter how good it seems. But we'll cross that bridge when we get there. But I was able to acquire some turbochargers and have been toying with some different set ups. I picked up two TD04/T3 (or so I believe...) and a Garrett GT4082 that has never been used from some friends of mine. Whether I keep them or not is still up in the air. One of the smaller turbos will need a rebuild for sure.
I've been working on getting the entire car gutted and stripped. Still have to pull the dash and continue removing the wiring harness inside the passenger compartment.

I also picked up a BN Sport Style Body Kit but decided Not to go with that so I sold it and put the money towards buying my engine.
Also picked up a Steel Turbo 2 hood from a friend but decided I want a more sleepy look so I decided not to use it (for now it's up for sale.)
Also it's interesting watching the spare parts begin to amass!
(once again the picture of the hood failed to attach...)

I picked up some Fiberglass wide Fenders to replace the Fender that was missing... I like these because they keep true to the original body lines while standing out and being wider.

We need to go get dinner sometime soon. Hit me up!
600+ would be great and if I could get my hands on either engine for a decent price I'm all over it!

A/R on the turbo seems to be a 0.5. A 4082 won't be enough for 500 RWHP unless you are in the 20+ PSI range. 4088R will do that power in the 16/18 PSI range which is far more reliable.

Wow that is small isn't it? I'm a noob with stuff like this so i'm trying to learn. From what I have read in Corky Bells Maximum Boost book it should give great response but not much hp.

A/R is a 0.58 It's decidedly not a small turbo. It makes the two TD04/T3 turbos looks tiny and my buddies 16G from an evo is even smaller yet. So the question is not will it produce enough boost but rather will it spool enough. Heck it's a turbo that diesel guys buy to upgrade their turbo diesels.
I'm off to go camping.

What's interesting is that the turbo has an internal wastegate, which tells me that it is a T3 turbine housing. What is the AR of the turbine side? But without even knowing that, I can tell you that the turbine side is way too small for that compressor on a rotary.
Oh, and a 4082 is much like a GT35R, so expect power similar to what you would see on the 35R.
You wanna make 500HP? Then you want a 4088R with a 1.06 turbine housing. Maybe .96 if you just have a street port.
