JDM motor swap questions
i recently picked up an 87 turbo II with a bad motor.
A JDM motor and trans came with it.
I want to know what to transfer over from original to JDM to complete the swap.
the intake manifold looks different and the oil metering is different.
the JDM vin on the motor is fc3s-237129
and answers and suggestions on the swap would be greatly appreciated.

Theres not much of any differance between JDM and USDM motors. BUT if the oil metering is differant it sounds like you have a S5 motor and a s4 car. In which case you'll need a S5 harness and ECU.

im not sure, i included the JDM vin so maybe it could be decoded.
can i transfer all the throttle body and intake and so forth from original to the JDM and retain stock harness?
Is there an advantage with the s5 over the s4?
The ECU was programmed by superchips or someone so id like to keep it.
it looks to me like the stock motor had the manually actuated oil metering and the JDM looks like electronic.
How hard is this swap and should i proceed?
I have about $1000 invested in car and parts, and id like to stay under $1000 to complete.
Let me know what to take pictures of and i can post pics tomorrow.
Also, can i obtain a full gasket kit and hose kit from somewhere?
My idea is to put both motors on stands next to each other and break them down, and then built up the JDM, attach trans and install.
Again, thank you for your quick replies, and help. Any tips/suggestions are greatly appreciated as they will make my life alot easier.
JDM motor VIN fc3s-237129.
Also anyone interested in the stock trans or motor parts feel free to make offer, as this will help offset the cost.

thats what id like to do, the oil metering parts dont look like they will swap out though, unless i can change out the whole front part containing the water pump assembly and so forth.
What is the better choice? new ecu and harness or swap out the block?

Like the guy said, swap the front covers bt the two engines. You do that to to swap the omp's.
You don't want to buy a S5 ECU just so the 0MP will work. The S5 ECU uses a completley different harness.
Use your original harness.Yes
I don't see how changing swapping the front cover is going to take you all that long to swap. What? Two or three hrs on the outside? Can't take that long actually. You could have done it by now.

should i be repalcing all the hoses and oil metering lines and so forth at this time too?
i was also thinking about getting the stock flywheel cut down because sitting around has let some surface rust build up.
Do you guys recommend after getting the flywheel cut that i should have the complete clutch/flywheel combination balanced?
I just want to make sure i do things right, in the right procedure to have this engine swap go as well as possible.
Thanks again for any input.
