Well I suppose its more common to bump something with your mirrors while driving in a highly congested area.

right, but i was going by the key term "parking." i understand it for driving through extremely narrow places, but not parking. i assume the japanese dont climb out their sunroofs and trunks. but hey, they didnt come up with the term 'culture shock' for nothin.

Most cars in Japan these days actually have powered folding mirrors. Flip a switch on the dash and they fold in. As mentioned, it's to stop people whacking them in tight car parks.

yea, i remember the electric ones because i could have gotten them for my integra. i believe type-r's had them, but i'm not sure. i just think the door would get wacked before the mirror. unless it was someone walkin by.
if i had them, i would rig them to the ignition (somehow) where they'd automatically fold in when i shut the car off. haha. yes! ricer mod. i'd do it.

yah, cuz to reach over to the passenger side and manually try to fold it would be a bitch all in the same time trying to park ur car without hittin the facker next to you.

Com'n it makes perfect sense why they fold they stick out farther than anything else on the car. If something is gonna get hit they will be first, another thing i like about em is if the get hit from the right direction the just fold back instead of breaking

except the fact that i was referring to parking. as far as parking and getting out of your car, the mirrors are the least of my concern. i'm worried about hittin someone elses car with my bumper and door getting out. as far as driving between vehicles, sure, makes sense.

i, in my question, was referring to parking.

i have a set of JDM mirrors on my car. I think they look way better than my S4 TII mirrors. I can take pictures tomorrow. I'll be seeing my car again because I need to put the new RE-Amemiya wing on her.

i, in my question, was referring to parking.
remember that there's no such thing as stall parking in Japan (ok, that's an exaggeration, but there's very little stall parking). It's all parallel parking in REALLY tight streets. People who drive in Asian countries are used to driving in tight spaces. In hong kong I went down a street that's just wide enough for 3 lanes of cars. Equivalent to 3 stall parking spaces wide. I drove down the middle while there were cars to the left and right of me parked bumper to bumper all the way down the street, if they hadn't folded their mirrors in, i would've been in an even tighter position. trust me, the folding mirrors help a lot!
