I've searched... need to know the exact weight of the sunroof and rails etc.

I'm trying to shed every ounce I can from my 88 SE and would like for someone who has removed their sunroof and weighed it to let me know exactly what it weighs. No "I think it must weigh **lbs." but an accurate actual weight.

Thanks, Matt

If you're that desperate for weight reduction, and you don't need the sunroof at all (ie. dedicated race car), why not just remove it and move on? Unless you're just really really curious...

I can give you a very accurate weight if you give a couple days.
I have the sunroof assembly out right now, cause I replaced it with a glass one.

You want it with or without the hoses in the corners?

Hey RETed, I have some interesting weights of other items from our car. How can we get them in the "What stuff weighs" thread???

Matt: Are you going to replace it with another lighter one?

I would also like to know. I'm thinking of ditching the sunroof. Half for weight and half for the extra headroom.

Well my sunroof is barely working right now. It will pop up but not roll back, can't even help it back with my hand. So I'm thinking about doing the something similar to what I did on my old GXL beater. I welded 4 tabs to the black panel that holds the rails, the tabs were shaped in a manner to hold the stock sunroof panel in it's closed position and had holes for the studs that secured the panel to the rails, rails were removed. This way I could install the panel in with 4 6mm nuts and remove it in less than a minute with a nut driver. There are 2 problems with this method, one is that alot of the sunroof hardware remains in the car(excess weight) and two, I had to cut 4 holes in the interior panel of the sunroof to access the nuts.

RETed, I can wait a couple of days if you could get that weight for me, with or without the tubes is fine.
