I've got a few questions.

I'm doing some thinking right now, and I need some input on this:

Should I use a standalone EMS?

The engine is an S5 13B-T, and is going to go into an 87 T2. The engine itself doesn't need rebuilding, but I will be replacing some of the gaskets, like the UIM, LIM, oil pan, etc.
I will most likely be running an aftermarket turbo, along with an FMIC.
I want to retain use of the electric OMP, without having to convert to an s4 mechanical OMP

I understand using the s5 ecu in this case would be a bad choice, but,
using an s4 ecu would be easier, but I would lose the OMP, and I would have to use the s4 AFM.

I don't have the stock s4/s5 turbo/manifold, so hence the aftermarket turbo.
I am however, considering purchasing the stock turbocharger.

I greatly appreciate your input.

my personal thought would be to go a/m ems, purely on the basis of simplicity of putting that in, than putting a s5 ecu in. Not sure what a/m ems would allow the control of the electric omp, im pretty sure haltech does, microtech doesnt from memory. And it'll be great for future mods

Yes, go with a standalone if you can find someone (or you can yourself) tune it.

In my opinion, any car with an upgraded stock (hybrid) or aftermarket turbo should be run by a standalone. I've just seen to many cars pop with this configuration on the stock ECU.

I don't know offhand if there is a way to make the Haltech run the stock S5 MOP, but I know that the Microtech in FD trim will run the MOP so that might be an option to look at (call a Microtech dealer or ask in the forum).

Putting on an S4 MOP (or using premix...yuck) is not a huge deal really. You just need the front cover, pump and rod.
