Thumbs down I've got a fast *** car, but I don't have transportation.

Think 2X before moding your TII.

As you all can see, I have spent a lot of time on this forum, over 1400 posts. I have spent more man Hrs, and more thousands than most can imagine, over $10,000 now. And just countless Hrs. I look back and realize the HUGE mistake I have made.

To start I had an 87 base, that thing lasted 210k miles and always ran like champ. That was my work car it died, a fuel injector leaked and caused an engine fire (no, not the PD) but I loved that damn car, it always ran, it always started.

But while I drove that car to make the money everyday, I spent all my money on my 10AE. Look at the mods listed below to imagine what I have done to it. It's fast as hell, don't get me wrong, but I can't use it, it's a racer that's it! I get 10MPG, and it wakes up my neighbors to the point I can't even start it past 9 PM ... without fear of pissing good people off. I have to warm the car up for 10 minutes before I can drive it. I have spent 100's on Dyno tuning and its still not quite right. I don't want to flame anyone here, so I won't proceed. Infact I don't want to flame anyone that has good intentions in mind. But I do want to say, It's not all its cracked up to be. They are fast as hell.... but then again, My 01 Dodge Dakota now takes me to work, and to my GF's at nite. By all means spend the money if you want to race it, spend the time if you want to show Honda's up .... but be sure you have other reliable wheels first.

Just my opinion.

I'm flame ready. But keep in mind, I have been there, done that.

-Robert

awwww

I'm pretty sure we all go through a point like that in our lives, and maybe even multiple times. I remember when I used to be really passionate about making my car super fast with showcar looks blah blah blah. I'm starting to realize that I don't need a 11 second car, or the ability to pull 1.1G's on the skidpad. I think I'm just going to get 720's/safc tune it all and then just have some fun with the car. I look back and realize how much money I'm starting to spend on the car and it frightens me. I've spent hundreds of hours on my back with oil, coolant, and disgusting slime dripping into my face. I've had my hands, knuckles, and arms bruised and cut. I've gone entire days where I woke up, went to the garage, and then went to bed without even leaving the house. My car is nowhere near as modd'ed as your car, but I think I know the feeling.

Haha "9.42 8th Mile" is the car if the week? I almost run that in the 1/4

I'm not knocking 7's im just saying, if you Mod to the point I have... make sure you have a daily. It's nothing but a race car now.

heh, when I had the gsr I said to myself "why would I need a daily driver that was faster than mid 14's, that's plenty quick". I got the t2 and I thought that I just wanted 13's. Now it's 12.99, it get's rediculous. It never stops.

Ya I am getting where I just want something with a bit more room, but not sure yet. I have a 94 ranger that is very reliable(knock on wood) so when I have my car down to work on it its not a big deal. But right now I want an SUV or a 4 door sedan. Something with leather and 4 doors and not domestic basically. Maybe I'll change my mind though.

Yo,

Bummer man, that's why I don't want to get a Turbo II. There's just no end of modification on the thing. I seriously think that Boost is more addictive than Cocaine...you just want more and more. *grin*

It looks like you had fun in the Sport...NA FC's can be fun, not the quickest, but still neat it their own way. I've been using my GTUs as a daily driver lately, and it hasn't complained too much.

Even with an NA RX-7, you still can go too far. My buddy Dana's GTUs is dancing right on the edge of streetability, roll cage, coilovers...makes for a pretty stiff ride.

Time to step away from the Dark Side of turbo rotaries....and go back towards the Light. Ditch the turbo, find a nice GSL-SE or a GTU, or a Sport, or if you're really lucky...a GTUs.

Come back to the carefree days of motoring...no stress...just spinning those rotors up towards redline...every day...every time. You remember...

I think that piece of gasket you left in the rotor chamber was more the instagator in that incident...

Nope, new susspension, but stock. There is nowhere around here to take a good twisty run with someone. It corners like its on rails anyways (I love the Z rated 225 Mich's, costly but worth every penny) .. and if by chance they had a Lotus, and they could out corner me....I would just take them on the strait. The only semi-fast cars around here are fully beefed Supra's, but they think a race is a 80-140 run a a public freeway. Thats just not my style, Im not going to jepordise a inoccents life to race a top end race on a public freeway. Those sleds can't hang till after 100, and by then your are looking at impound if your caught.

Thumbs up

I fully agree with you on that. But that is the reason I don't care if my car is faster than driver x. As long as the car delivers an exhilarating drive I'm happy...and I tune it to ensure it does. I love N/A engines especially rotaries (although I have MUCH love for my turbo brethen and eventually will buy a turbo car...FD that is), smoother than silk, flows like water, perfectly reliable even when you DO mod them to hell and back (when you know what you're doing that is...some people can still mess them up in the name of maxpower which is sad...all that and for what?). If people knew what quick really was they wouldn't be like they are today always trying to get a stoopid fast car when they already have one. Even stock N/A running 0-60 in 8.1/8.2 is a great time (mine runs better than that, but still it's not slow by any means). One day people will hopefully get this I have to be faster than you bug out of their system (racing is different it's got a different purpose altogether which is why I LOVE racing), and realize what cars are all about again...the drive.

I could slap on a header to my FC but that would change the nature of the car that I happen to love (the sound that is). Yes I would gain more tq and hp, but I won't do it at the expense of taking the soul out of my car. When I find or make a header that sounds just as good if not better then I'll go for it, but as for now I'll just stick to the hair on the back of the neck raising, goosebump inducing, heart rate rising, kraft mac and cheese smiling, ear to ear grin feeling I have right now. All is well with the car to ME and THAT my friends is all that matters! Remember next time you wanna be faster than the next guy...who are you building the car for him or you?

(Note: I say racing in the road racing, rally, etc sense...I'm not an avid street racer, but I do occasionally have some fun but don't go too far with it keep it safe and remember it's not a personal track where everyone has the same goal and goes one way only.)

Yep. I'd love a new engine / turbo / haltech. but at this point I see no reason too. it's not worth spending months of earned money on it right now. hopefully in a few years I'll be making alot more and I will build it.

my stock engine / turbo at 10psi is still lots of fun. and even as it is I can hardly floor it for fear of cops.

I completely agree with you Robert. That's why my 'vert is almost stock (well other than if it came from Japan with the 13Bt already in it).

But no fancy mad boost, or any extra gauges (other than boost) no superloud freeflowing exhaust, no FATF paint job. Just a 'vert that is a little faster than the normal A spec 'vert.

Kinda funny the way you word that. But yea that's really all I want for my car too. Something that's better than stock, or if you will a "special edition" of sorts. I await my A-spec stickers yet still though...

well, I swaped the 13BT in, but didn't do any porting or even rip out the main cat. I didn't swap in a haltech, or bigger injectors than what a 13BT comes with.

I wanted the car so I could put the top down drive it. I didn't want to be waking neighbors when I started it. I wanted a car that would pass smog, and that a mechanic looking at it, wouldn't be shaking his head (not that I would let a mechanic work on the car, but that's not the point).

or if want to run 14 pounds at the track and 12 on the street. lol I always say this btu I swear this is it. I don't need a fancy front mount, or a 10 pound flyhweel or 2k dollar coilovers blah blah blah. Eventually I want to find some decent wheels (read: cobra or GT rims powdercoated white) and maybe paint the car. I have to keep this car next year for college and I already get 12 mpg lol.
