I've been noticing something strange with my car....

Ok, you know after everytime you fill up you should add more oil in your car? Well.... I'll check my oil after every fill-up, but it still says it's full. Is there something wrong or fishy going on here? Should I pour some in anyway? Will it make a difference?

It worries me, because it seems like it's not burning any oil. Rotories burn oil correct? Then why isn't mine, or so it seems?

Really seems werid, though. I can remember after every fill up you'd have to add a qt or so/less. But... it's been 2 weeks since I've needed to do that...

Curious...?

You put oil in every time you get gas? Hmm, I don't even do that and I have a good size oil leak, lol.

You shouldn’t need to add oil at every fill; I believe it’s only supposed to be around one quart per thousand miles.

New my sport only used a quart every 2K miles, my rebuilt 13BT 'vert uses about 1 quart every 1.5k miles.

as everyone says you should only be adding oil when it needs it (that the oil level is almost at or below the add oil line on the dip stick).

look, you should wait for the engine to cool down to check the oil. It takes time for it to drain down back to the oil pan. so wait atleast 20 minutes after you turn off the engine before you check the oil.

do not overfill the engine with oil, it's not good.

FYI, the typical rotary engine burns 1 quart every 2000 miles.

I dont know a lot about second gens but on third gens there can be gas blow by that actually will keep your oil looking full...it can also be a leaky injector which i have experienced first hand...look for a strong gas smell when you change the oil.

good luck...

Oil consumption depends completely on how you drive. Drive easy and you will hardly use any. Romp on the pedal constantly and you can go through a quart in 500 miles.

However, the only way to accurately check oil is to do so on a level surface when the car is stone cold. Otherwise, oil is in the engine and expanded from the heat.

The metering oil system on the '86-'88 is very reliable, so I doubt you are experiencing problems.
