Its Alive!!! Muwhahaha

Something about the pure energy that runs through your body when feeling the power of a rotary at your command.

Hey all, we got it started. Total crank time to get it totaly un-flooded was close to 10 minutes. I'm actually expecting the starter to go south within the next 3-4 months because of it.

She spewed a toxic cloud that lasted 10 minutes and lasted about 2 blocks (My mom came over just a few minutes aftyer we had started it and said she could see it smoke right when she entered the canyon. She was a bit worried!)

The rex made it out of the garage on her own in drive and narrowly squeezed between my moms mecury mystic and my budddies 79 camaro. Don't we all love the turning radius of an rx7!!

Well... the tranny looks tougher to install than I thought. I'm an amature and have never done a tranny install before. Our mechanic isn't too enthused about installing it. Infact he gave a *very* reluctant yes, mostly out of loyalty of business i guess.

Trying to find secondary options. I'm in rapid city south dakota and need somethign very near. I don't expect the tranny to last more than 10 miles and don't care to trailer it, but will if i have too.

Tranny is ATX, what is the relative cost (IYHO) to swap an ATX tranny from a 90 NA GTU? I'm looking at finding someone to do a complete rebuild of the original aswell. What would the relative cost (IYHP) of a tranny rebuild.

Thanks for your help everyone. The local import guys would have charged me my arm and both legs just to decipher a flooded engine.

This I think would rank with one of the most flooded engines... at least in my lifetime. Thanks for your help!!!!

Should add that I have two transmissions right now. The faulting (right now in the rex) and the replacement that came fedex this monday from J Purches in michigan. I'll recremend him highly if the replacement tranny will make it a year or so. long enough to save for the rebuild. Have a goodnigh all. Please help with the few q's above.

Just my 2 cents...but if you wanted to save quite a bit of labor costs, I would just buy a $15 set of Wal-Mart metric wrenches and sockets, a Haynes manual, and spend 5 or so hours changing them out yourself. I recently put my own clutch in and I was surprised how overall easy it was...

I did a motor swap last year (July 3rd, R.I.P.)

Tranny comes out just the same as it would from an S-10 or a Monte Carlo. Nothing special. Couple sensors to unplug, some bolts to remove from it and make sure the driveshaft is out of the way. Nothing special to make it a nightmare. I hate how mechanics wince at finding out I drive one of these. They all have this horrible impression about them and then become converts after I show them my car.

Good luck with it.

You guys seem really positive that this can be tackled. My friend (the one with the 79 camaro) was willing to help. We looked at the tranny when it came fedex (both with no experience with tranny installs) and kinda contempted the idea. It still seemed tempting after getting quotes of $400 though. I really want to do it. Just not sure that I can. (doubting myself).

The haynes probably picks up step by step pretty good like the usually do? Which would be better the haynes or chiltons.

I plan to goto borders after work ( i work 3rd shift) and get it. I need to go to wallyworld to get some primer and a few other things aswell. And napa for a few gaskets I guess.

How about it?
