Exclamation It's Alive!!!! Kinda

Alright guys this is the deal. I bought my 88 GXL in may of this year. I purchased it not running for 500 dollars. I figured it was a blown apex b/c when i did the poor mans compression check it was wosh wosh wooooosh. Well anyways you get the idea. So i've tried anything i can think of to get it running and it has never ran since i've had it. Today on the way to pull the motor at my uncles house i put it in gear as i'm gettin pulled. Now this isnt the first time i've done this and some reason i pushed on the gas as a last try before i get into a big mess and low and behold it starts revin'. I was stoked as can be. As i create a cloud of atf fluid smoke it runs but wont idle. I went and got a new started b/c the one it has was on its last leg as well, threw that baby in and now i started it up again it is idleing on its own even. BTW i got a new thermostat at AZ and threw that in. I also got a new filler neck cap at the dealer when i ordered a real thermostat. I also ordered a new radiator cap while at the dealer. its getting a little warm and sending water out of the overflow in the process. I know this isn't good but why would it be doing that? Is it possible that there's a lot of air in the coolant sytem? I"m kind of at a loss here. Being the pessimist that i am i'm thinking it could be more like a water seal or something. But there's no smoke of any kind coming out of the exhaust. Any input would be extremely appreciated guys!!! I've been without a car since about June so i'm dyin here. Thanks in advance.

you should have said that was your burn out, and not AFT LOL

anyways.... coolant out the bottle is normaly the coolant seals probably time for a new engine. but you were expecting that anyways.. so it's not too bad

That smoke looks REALLY familiar...

Seems to me my GXL did that after my fiance flooded the car so badly we had to put oil in the intake....

We had people coming to make sure we didnt have the garage on fire.

Be glad it was outside.. I couldnt see my gauges... I couldnt see to pull the car out...

nice photo

yeah...your coolant seals are about to go.. Same happened to my car.. had some boiling water in the overflow tank.. I still drove the car for awhile but when the end came.. All the water ended up dumping out the manifold in a matter of seconds and then the temperature sensor starts the alarm of the car and whammo.. your out of water and your coolant seals are toast.. if you only paid $500 then your in luck a new engine is rather cheap..

Derek, I don't think it's your engine. It's been running just fine. All you need is new A-Seals and Coolent Seals like (atpeak23) said. Your car has torque, runs and sounds beautiful. You're looking at in all wrong.
