Its $70 an hour time-yep, Im goin to the dealer

I just got my car like a month ago and it still wont idle no matter how much i adjust the screw, the exhaust pops every other note, it runs hot, and if it does start idling it jumps up and down and all over,-i think its really my timing thats off, i dont know how to use a timing light, or have access to multimeters so im screwed. 70 bucks an hour is straight butt sex, but i think i can get away for under $200, and itll feel good knowing itll be fixed right and completely.sorry to let you guys down

Have you looked for any rotary specialists in your area? I just wouldn't trust the dealer to touch my engine, or most of my car for that matter.

I hope it'll feel good to know most Mazda mechanics are piston mechanics since only the RXs (which there arent many of em) have rotaries. So a dealer couldn't really give a ****
Find a Rotary Specialist, or else you'll be sorry
Too many stories

$200 wont even get your car in the door with a problem... They dont know jack about a rotary, or at least most dont... The first 3 hours will go to him researching the car. Id say go buy a $20 mutimeter, and a a timing gun. And LISTEN to waht these guys here have to say!

gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! don't take it to the dealer!!! I have horror stories myself!! Everything bad you're hearing is 100 percent true! The only things mazda can do: a compression test, and an electronics test. I remembver both of them being pretty pricey but they are good tests to do. At least run those error codes... a bad sensor somewhere can really F with your car. Get the parts mentioned above, you won't be able to live without em once u learn how to use them. Let me know how it goes man! - and dont be afraid to pm me

This is what you NEED to do. 1. Get a Factory shop manual. 2. You seem to have a vacuum leak. Thats usually why it runs like crap and the idel jumps around. The AIC screw will only make a big difference if it can actually raise the Maifold pressure. You probably have a leak. I would guess intake manifold gasket. Buy the parts and do it yourself. Looks for cracked/broken or popped off vaccum lines. When was the last time you changed the 02 sensor? You can do that yourself. Many times the car will idle and run poorly due to the 02 sensor being old. For a fact: dealer will always diagnos it as something very expensive. Motors and Turbos have been replaced due to vacuum lines being off or something simple like a gasket partially blowing out. Dealer is a last resort. Try some things yourself. You may actaully learn about your car.

damn

This is what I was afraid of. There arent any rotorary shops around here that I know of, except in Pennsylvania I hear. The Mazda dealer told me itll take a couple days before my car is looked at because there is only one person there that works on 7's, and its the owner. I have a new 02 sensor, its only about a month old, and my car ran this shitty when I got it, which was a month ago, I just started hearin this air leak like 5 days ago. I really dont know what to do, I would like to put in a new gasket if I could find one other than at the dealer. And is this relatively easy? Let me know fellas

well if they have someone who works on them, and it is the owner he's probably ok. but most don't have anyone who can work on them. $70/h?? dam that seams like alot to me. never been to a dealer up here but It can't be that much. I pay $50cnd (35us?) to a rx-7 only guy

if your in ohio you have no excuse. Go to Dave at KD in PA. When you have a day off drive down and have it look it over. Call him first to set up an appointment so you can have his full attention. He is quick and will probably fix it on the spot for much less than a dealer will. Also he is one of the best in the business. Whats it like a 2 hour drive for you or less? C,mon lazy.

ok, i live in western pa, about 1 hour to my west is ohio
Dave @ KD is aboot (he he i can spell in canadian now) 5 hours from me.
And that 1 hour from ohio was only to the border

However in pittsburgh (well just outside of it). SevenSpeed is opening on saturday
www.sevenspeed.com
thats probably much closer
id say call now and try to get an appointment if you really can't do anything yourself. It's ran by Exit13B and another rotorhead.
I can't wait till the grand opening.

But yeah just try to take care of it yourself and the manuals and stuff are well worth it even if they don't help you much now.

you could come to toledo, and visit Defconmotorsports. they know RX7s. they work on everything. and do good work too. its basically like the Shop that Torretto ran in F&F. its all run by people in their 20s,and they know their ****. there is a guy who trusts his Mica Yellow R1 to them, and had them put in a EBC, and blitz FMIC and piping, and lord knows what else. its alot closer than penn. u might try these guys before you go to penn.

the dealer should NEVER be used at ALLLL... not even for parts. Mazdatrix gets the same parts that the dealer does, from the same warehouse in Irvine, cali. and 'Trix sells them for at least 10% less than the dealer.

as far as work at the dealer, the mech's there dont know **** about rotaries, unless one of them OWNS one. hell, back when RX7s were NEW, the mech's didnt know how to worrk on them, you think that they know how to work on the NOW?! hell Naw!

take it to a speed shop for sure. seven speed, or KD, or defcon. but not the dealer.

Your right thats quite a stretch. And to think I was just in Princeton NJ. I could have gone a few more miles to Pa and to KD rotary. The Map says 300+miles from kent to Kd rotary.

Buy a can of carb cleaner and start spraying everywhere you see a vacuum hose and listen for an RPM jump. Especially check the air funnel hose if you have a turbo (big ribbed hose that goes from the air cleaner box to the engine. My mechanic told me he's replaced a lot of these - they tend to crack at the end that attaches to the turbo.

Ditto in going to the dealer. Mine told me I needed a new short block (that was 50K ago. All it was was a leaky injector). They don't know their *** from a hole in the ground.
