Issue with Fc!

so my 88 gxl started acting weird today, it started up fine i drove around the block i come to a stop and it died, i turned it on drove again and again at a stop and it died. So anyttime i came to a complete stop it died. If i stopped i had to rev the engine in order to keep it on. So i figured it was and idle issue sure enough i popped the hood and i had no idle andjuster screw , it was there the other day so idk wat happened to it. Next in the night i turned on my car and the in lights the dash are very dim then gets bright then dim and stays dim so idk wat is the issue? Could the idle be making my lights dim?

Is your idle bouncing?

Did you replace the idle set screw that was missing?

Have you had your alternator & battery checked?

If yes to above questions then you'll want to check/set your TPS, and possibly do a compression test.

If the idle is rising then lowering in a repeated fashion then that could be the cause of your dimming lights. Next time try to keep the rpm level at the 1000 mark or so and see if the same condition occurs. If it does then possibly the alternator/charging circuit is having problems. Also, take note of the voltage gauge and see if it is fluctuating.
