Iron Question

I am currently doing a TII conversion on my 86' GXL, I am rebuilding the 13bt and this is my first rebuild. I cleaned all the internals (rotors, housings, irons), and I noticed that the irons have stains and a little carbon from the rotor (I'm guessing). How can I clean this without damaging the iron? and is this normal for a motor that hasn't ran in a good while? And thanks to Rotary Resurrection for the great write up that has been allot of help!

You usually cannot fully clean the imprint off, nor do you need to. Perhaps some chemicals like purple power, greased lightning, etc. might remove it. As long as the iron face is smooth when you run your hand across it with no rust or pitting where that rotor was sitting, it is fine.
