Question Interior vents smells like engine bay..

Where does the blower motor pull in air? From the engine bay or something? I'd like to clean out the vent system w/ compressed air to remove dust and old people's musky smell... Anyone have any advice aside from removing the dash to clean everything?

I've removed my entire dash and it needed some cleaning but to be honest, I've never been able to get the previous owner's scent free from the car. (Luckily this guy's wife drove it mostly, so it smells like a yankee candle!!!)

Cleaning out the dash vents didn't seem to help my car. It's had that scent or similar for 18 years or so... expect it to last I guess.

My vents have hot air leaking out of them after my car warms up. I would assume this comes from my engine bay. I don't feel to safe about that...

Any ideas as to why it does this or ways to fix it?

?

I do have a small exhaust leak, but I just leave the window cracked anyways. However, with no heat and it being the winter...

Anyways, is there a way to fix this?

Fix the exhaust leak?

Doesn't sound too safe to me...

I'm working on getting a racing beat header.

Anyways... that won't change the fact that air is still coming in, from I'd assume, the engine bay.

clean the area at the wider part of the hood.. where the windshield meets the firewall..that plastic grill..it has the wiper arms coming out of it ..I'm sure that's the area for air inlet for your ventilation..and if you smell anything ..it's most likey the fumes(anything burning on engine like oil), coming up from the engine there..and "nature debris" like pieces of fallen leaves or dirt and what not from just driving..it's good to keep that area clean ..or else you don't get sufficient air for your car in the winter..to defrost the windshield..(I'm Canadian..consider it extra info..lol)

For me, I don't really smell any fumes. Cracking the window is just a precaution.

It's just kind of annoying to have it do that. Would having my vent partially unhooked cause it? My corner vent are about 1/2 an inch from being connected fully. I think that "might" be the problem, but if it is, wouldn't hot air be coming in from the dash or something?
