Exclamation Interior/Dashboard lights AND taillights not working! HELP PLEASE!

Hi everyone! You guys on the forum had helped us in the past, the week we were delivering our son, and got our car RUNNING for us, so I have much faith in you guys out there! Alas, I need help once again!

My husband and I have had this happen in his first 7 (1986) and now it is happening in our current 7 (also 1986 GXL). We don't know if it happens to be a "known problem" amongst these cars, but a lot of things seem to be "known problems".

Our dashboard lights (the ones that light up MPH, RPM, etc.) and our tail lights are not coming on anymore. For the past couple of weeks, they would flicker on and off, and now, they won't come on at all. We thought we could get past the dash lights thing last night on our way out, until we got a little down the road, and my husband remembered that in his first 7, if the dash lights didn't work, then the tail lights didn't work. He knows he can run a jumper cable in between the headlights and the parking lights on the relay to give us our lights back, but the headlights will always be on when the parking lights are on.

Realistically, we would like to actually FIX the thing, and move on to all it's other problems. Any information is appreciated guys! God Bless!

I had the same problem, its caused by a burned headlight switch/harness plug. It's an easy repair, email chrissanders@netzero.net he should have the parts in stock.

white/green at the headlight switch is probably burnt.

Replace the headlight switch and the light harness.

I would also check all your parking light bulbs at the lights, chances are very high that they are corroded, or new ones got put in without any condutice grease or dialectric

"workaround" nothing, it is the solution. A little improvement to an under-engineered system.

You don't even need to bother with a new switch & harness. A 30A relay is much cheaper.

hey sup,
i tried replacing, checking, everything EVERYONE has said and i kept blown fuse, so tomarrow i had to track down all the parking light light and cluster light wires, and i just ran a batt +12v to a relay and mounted a switch on my dash, so now i have parklights/ and all!
