Interesting 2ng Vs 3rd gen ?
This is interesting but my point was that 10PSI for 10PSI is almost the same HP. But I know realize that the potential goes up faster mod for mod on the 3rd gen
Yes the 3rd is superior we all now. But my next car will be a T11 until after colledge. All I can say right now for handling and Power Vs Mod for my N/A is that thier incredible even though its not a 3rd its still the 2nd best car ever for its class. I have about 160rwp on my 89GXL with no street port just DIY mods. Thats 35rwp gain with bolt ons. Plus with just tires and RB springs im taking out my friends 97 miata in handling , funess ,revs and power. . You cant say that with any other car out thier...

This reminded me of......
Back in '94, I raced a red R1 on 280 north bound into Daly City. I could not tell if it was modded or not. He came up hard on my on the fast lane. I stayed there to see if he would go around me. I guess he noticed that I was an "older" Rx7...so, I guess he thought that tailgating me would make me move out of the way. I did....I move over a lane. From there, he cruzed right next to me...he noticed that my car was a T2. He started to blip.....I guess he wanted to race. He thought that he would walk away. He was wrong. At that point, we were crossing the 92 freeway.
I was traveling @ about 70mph. I turned my TVVC up and nailed it in third. I pulled hard and slowed to let him pass me. He slowed also. So, I gave him the nod and we both pulled. We stayed door to door, moving around slower traffic (there were hardly any cars...perfect). We were hitting around 120mph. This went on for about 10 or more miles.....we slowed when we got to 380, traffic. He came up right next to me, nodding his head right to left.
He was suprised an older 7 can hang.

lets just say the fd is more of a car than an fc will ever be.. it picks UP where the fc goes DOWN..nothing against 2nd gens .. i own one... but without a doubt about it.. my next car will be a third gen... in the handling department.. no competition.... the 3rd gen takes it,looks- of course.... braking--likewise... acceleration and TOP END- without a doubt the fd does it to the fc in anyway.. the good about t2's is that right now theyre kinda cheap and they respond good to bolt ons compared to buying a 14,000-16,000 dollar fd and working ur way up.. For the price the Fc wins...but im just lusting more for a third gen and gettin tired of this second gen boxyness gettin smoked by hondas look..
I've had both, 2 87 TIIs and 12 FDs.
My last 87 TII would beat my lightly modded R1 in a straight line. This is from a ~50mph roll to a little over the 3-4th shift. Also compared actual 1/4 mile times. The TII ran 13.4's @ 104-105.5mph. The R1 runs 13.59@102.85 best.
TII had a full exhaust (2.25" DP), no AC, springs, adj shocks, RB sway bars, slotted strut towers, etc. It weighed in at around 2450lbs for the 13.4 times and about 2600lbs when we raced it against my R1 on the freeway. The R1 would pull ahead after 100mph, the TII pulled a car length basically until the FD got into 4th gear (FD shifts later).
The R1 has DP, CB and Efini y-pipe, adj shocks, springs, the TII is more modded.
For auto-x the R1 smokes the TII so incredibly bad it is embarrasing both on R compound Kuhmos.
Bang for the buck the TII wins HANDS DOWN!

Remember to win a race you gotta finish a race. When ever I look at 3rd Gens for sale I constantly see New Motor or needs motor. I think other than there looks they are a steaming heap of crap. Ive seen Turbo IIs go a long way on there motors also I agree it depends on whos doing the upgrades. A mildly modded Turbo II usually can take a Stock 3rd Gen. Mazda Trix sells a exhaust kit which givre the Turbo II 59 more HP alone. As far as weight is concerned a 87 Turbo II weighs 2,845lbs, A base 93 weighs 2,789lbs and the 93 touring which I see the most of weighs 2,862lbs although the 89 and up Turbo IIs are right around 3,000lbs. Don't get me wrong I love the 3rd Gens but for the $$ its pretty tough to beat the Turbo IIs.
The number one reason i want a third gen is the handling, its so top class, can put most cars, even exotics to shame. i dont like their reliability issues though, i want my car to last atleast 150k,... o their pretty too,

hey, just curious, but does the 3rd gens get as much horsepower from just the exhaust....as much as a turbo II? the turbo II's get around, what, 50+ horsepower with just an exhaust right? so i'd think that alone would put it right up there with an fd. and i guess apparently the weight difference isn't THAT much. if the weight numbers that i see are correct, put a passenger in an fd and it would probably end up weighing more than an fc. the 50 horsepower increase (if that's truely correct) is pretty impressive to me. most cars i've seen only get around 8-15 horsepower at the most with just an exhaust.
