Interest and price check

Well first off this isn't any sure thing and I'm not even saying I am going to try it. I am looking to see what kind of interest there is and what price everyone would seriously pay. I know a guy that owns a fiberglass plant. They make septic tanks and other goods usually but made my dad some canoes before so they can do custom work. I was going to see how much they would need to make a mold of a TII hood. Then I could have them make as many as I want for cheap prolly. I am not definitely doing this but just wanted to see if it really is worth doing. Let me know, please none of those "this will never happen responses" because I haven't even decided if I want to do it yet. Thanks. Oh and what will you honestly pay?

I just looked around at aftermarket hood prices (for other cars) and the range is from $350-$1000, so I guess anything on the lower end of that range should generate a good deal of interest. I would be interested in anything under $400 or so, but I don't know if I want to do the body work on this car or not...I change my mind daily.

See the main thing I would be worried about is all these people saying, ya I would buy one but when it came down to it they never would fork out the money. If I can make these cheap enough I can share the discount with everyone. Its my dads really good friend so he could make me one for free and once the mold is made they should charge too much for each additional one. Would have to see though.

Forget the hood, seriously.

Have them make a Fiberglass sunroof!! It will be cheaper and something that most of us will need sooner or later.

I'll have some extra money hanging around in January...if I'm the tiebreaker for whether or not they get made, count me in.

You need to consider how to ship these. Boxes are available but you will have to order 50-100 min. and have shipped to you truck frieght. Do you have a way to get them to the terminal?
IF YOU DO THIS, what kind of "coomitment" will your dads friend give you to support a large influx of orders.

What are you going to use for a frame support, or is it a pin-on design

I'm not trying to **** in your wheaties, just giving you some items to consider.

I could do that but I'm interested in the hood myself more. It would be lighter for me and could be put on any FC so the NA guys could use them as well.

I am planning on just using hood pins. Most people want them anyways and it makes it easier. How large are we talking about anyways. I was thinking if its not too much money I might front the first 10 and see how they sell. I can get them to a terminal. UPS ground is usually pretty reasonable. It can take a week or so but its worth the price difference. They shipped me a front fender and bumper wrapped very thickly in bubble wrap and taped all up and it was perfectly fine. Hood shouldn't be much difference but I could get some boxes I'm sure.

Most of us want the carbon fiber Turbo II hood for the look.

Fiberglass is good for making custom bodykits, aerodynamic noses, etc... You'd want to paint the hood as straight fiberglass doesn't look good - and then you have to ask yourself "what's the point of going fiberglass."

If you want to add hoodpins, then use you OEM hood

It is WAYYYYY too large to ship UPS. Truck frieght minumun is 67.50 (cheapest I have found). You need to box it, Forklifts will be handling these. Yes you could get boxes but they are expensive. Just some food for thought. John

Whats the dimensions for the hood, do you know? I am going to figure it out but I swore it was UPS that shipped a front bumper to me and it didn't cost too much.

ups MAX dimension is 130" A properly packed bumper makes it by 4-6", I've shipped quite a few. A hood will not!
