Question Interest in mechanical 6-Port actuation Kit??????

Hey, guys... I have been tinkering around with a Mechanical six port actuation kit for pre '89 cars which use back pressure to open the sixports... (you could use it on an 89-91 too, if you wanted to eliminate your air pump, or had bad actuators.)

I did this once before and it worked really well, but since I have an '89 now, i haven't worried about it much until i started looking at all the posts about 6-ports on here.

Basically, the kit will consist of an RPM switch, a relay, Electric "Push Pull" solenoids and mounting brackets to mount them in the stock locations.

Right now, I'm researching the actuators to find the most appropriate units for the application, next step will be to make a prototype of the mounting brackets... everything else I already have worked out....

Question is.... How many of you'se guys would be interested????? AND, what would you be willing to pay, I'm not trying to make a lot of money... However, the RPM switch is about 50 bucks itself... so the complete kit will probably cost close to 100 bucks in materials, the only other thing is my time in machining the brackets.

If there are enough people out there that want this type of kit to offest the costs, I'm thinking about making a batch of them to save on shipping costs from the suppliers and doing a group buy type deal.

Well this sounds cool but would there be any advantage to S4 cars I already have my air pump and ACV removed.

I may be interested.... I have done some reading on electronic activation and I have found no sure fire reliable long lasting way to actuate 5/6 ports yet. It turns out that the electronic activation has to work and suck electricity the entire time that the ports are open. I dunno I am definitely in the market for activation solutions.

hey man--sounds like a plan. As long as it's reliable and doesnt cost more than the car. I am looking to pull out all the emmissions crap this summer and I dont want to wire my 5 and 6. Keep us informed!!

I have the same setup except I'm using an Air Compressor to open up the Auxilliary Ports. I'd be Interested to see pics of the solenoid used to open them.

I have to do some diggin for the actuation devices, your right, the system I used before sucked voltage all the time when the prots were open...... However, I am looking at other options that will only use current as they extend and retract (instead of requiring voltage to keep them extended)... and, if you think about it... your ports are only open a small percentage of the time you are driving the car anyway

As for the air compressor, not a bad idea either... My idea is to get rid of the reliance on air all together.

What is the voltage/ current draw of your compressor??

as for S4.. thats what its aimed at.. s5's used the air pump to actuate the six ports, so most guys just leave it on there.

well I don't see a need for any other method of actuation for a s4. My 5th and 6th ports work just fine with my exhaust.

or do they?
Most people with freed up exhausts don't have working actuators.
I'm glad I have an s5

can they be adjusted to work on an S5 by exhaust back pressure? 1987 when do yours start opening?

uh yes they do. I have the MT DUALs which have the fitting designed to actuate the ports. I would doubt I could beat all the cars I race with out them.

Although aimed at S4s, it seems the idea would be more suited to S5 owners who wish to eliminate the air pump for weight savings (and most eliminate all emmissions in the process).

Even on aftermarket exhausts, most S4s generate enough pressure to activate the auxiliary ports.

Just make sure anything bolted to that location can take the heat of the exhaust.
