intercooler+ wiring question

I'm gathering parts for my REW swap and am wanting to keep the stock turbos in NON-Sequential. I will be going single turbo soon so I'm looking for a decently priced intercooler that will be subsantial for the stock twins.

Also, I will be using a stock FD ECU until I upgrade to single turbo. What's the best way to wire the ecu in terms of ignition power, fuel relay, and main relay?
I'm swaping everything into an NA S5 car.

Thanks, Im a more of a wrench guy, not electrical, so flame on!

The stock ECU is probably a bad idea. Not worth the trouble for something that is just going to be unreliable. You will need to install resistors in all the solenoid plugs so it doesn't throw any codes, plus on stock twins the conventional wisdom says you can't go over 10psi (hell you'll hit fuel cut anyway). So an FD on stock ECU isn't going to do **** for you--maybe 230, 240whp max? Might as well just keep an s4 motor in there and turn up the boost. You need to go ahead and wire it for a Haltech. That's the best solution.

For non-sequential you should search on the FD subforum about "rich man's" non sequential, where you can increase the flow of the stock exhaust manifold etc once you remove the various flappers and actuators. You will also need a boost controller. The s5 and s6 harnesses are pretty different man. The electrical connectors are different, the s6 has way different emissions stuff... it's going to be a big, big pain to run the stock harness, and you need to forget about the stock ECU. It's dangerous enough on an actual FD.

As far as intercooler goes, well it's going to be tricky. If you look under the hood of an FD, their intercooler cores are a very different shape from the FC. I think the stock Y-pipe outlet is 2.5" or 3" and the piping is all very short to the stock intercooler location. An FD stock-mount replacement that they sell won't work, as they sit where the stock radiator sits on an FD. You will need to do something completely custom. FD intercoolers are all very thick but not particularly wide due to space constraints.

You really should look into the 13B-RE swap. This is the twin turbo cosmo engine which is much closer to the s5 than the FD and is much easier to mount and hook up. Banzai Racing has a 13B-re vert and they have adapted the stock wiring s5 harness for a Power FC.

In summary, your easiest bet would be to go 13B-RE with Power FC. If you still want to go with an REW, you better wire in a Haltech and you will have to figure out engine mounts.

I'm not worried about the mounting issue as I'll just buy the pre-fabbed ones (I know, not the best, but they will work for now).
Getting a haltech isn't much of a problem, so I might as well upgrade to that.
I'm perfectly capable of doing it myself anyways, but the only part that worries me is getting actual power to the haltech and getting the haltech to talk with the relays.

Thanks for a great response!

kk, done and done, we'llsee what comes up.
Like, I'm fine terminating the Haltech harness, but I can't seem to wrap my head around getting it connected to the dash harness and fuse boxes...
