Are the intercooler piping on e bay any good?

Are the intercooler piping on e bay any good?

Well I had a thred about helping me buy and FMIC intercooler on e bay. and that turned out very helpful. So Now I need some piping and I found a bunch on e bay but they come with different bends and whatnot. I just need 3" piping that will fit my FC can soemone help me?

brand shouldnt matter

being i dont have any way of welding aluminium myself, i made my intercooler pipes out mandrel bent aluminized steel exhaust piping available from jegs, summit etc

the pipes are fine, the connectors suck, get some T bolt band clamps (DO NOT USE NORMAL HOSE CLAMPS), and be prepared to either buy a pipe flanging tool or talk to a local tuner / body shop and have all you pipe sections lipped to your good connectors.

i hope you're using an aftermarket turbo as you will get lag bigtime. the stock turbo does not flow enough air to fill that 3" piping quickly. it's a matter of volume. the larger the pipe dia the more volume the turbo must fill before it's pressure gets to the engine.

As previous post said, the connectors are junk.. However, you wont get significant lag from running larger piping, that is a myth.

i just bought a ebay 2.5" piping kit.... its the one with black piping and Red Couplers.....i havent recieved the piping yet but i know it shipped yesterday. so ill let you know when i get it and what it looks like.

I don't know much about bending stuff or anything I'm learning how it is done. Umm Hmm aluminized steel pipes. I've heard that before from my friend. I didn't know what he meant? aluminized steel exhaust piping? Is that the same pipes you use for your exhaust? Isn't it bad to use that? I think I was told that....

ebay pipes are fine. piping is piping, but most all of them will need a bead welded on them to hold the clamps from sliding off

Buy a universal tubing set, fit it and see where you want it. Mark it, and cut off sections you don't need. Take it to a local muffler shop and have them weld together sections you want welded. Flange the ends, and get some atp couplers from www.atpturbo.com

found soem with different thickness. what is a good thickness to go with. I found like 1.6mm 1.8mm and 2.0mm

To consolidate the whole thread into one post.

-Ebay piping kits are fine, thickness isn't a concern
-2.5" is best for stock turbo, 3" is fine, you will experience minimal lag
-Use T-bolt clamps
-Get the end of the pipes either rolled or have the end bead-welded
-If you wish, have the pipes welded together in select places.

Thats about it.

The problem is the 150$ kits on eBay polished aluminum are carp. I venture to say 99% of the people posting hear have never seen them or tried to weld them. They are cheep because the metal fairest is crap. Good luck welding it. If you coupler the whole thing together it will work but welding it will be a joke. Spend your money once not 3 times. Just order some reinforced silicone hose for the couplers the plastic ones are junk and get some V flange preferably since Wiggins are to expensive and V is bettor then T.

Nobody complained when I had some ebay pipe welded to my stock IC. Its not the highest quality metal, but it does the job.

i disagree with the 3" piping thing but aside from that i think everything has been covered. you can search if you want more information about the sizing of the intercooler piping.
