intentional error

I want to check the code checker system in my series 5 rex. What would be the simplest way to create an error code? I have followed instructions to check codes but no signal ever flashes, so I question whether the check engine light is even working. Should it come on momentarily when the ignition is first switched on? Three years of rebuild time have passed since I last drove my car. Thanks to this forum, I hope to be back in the driver's seat real soon!

Unplug the airflow meter
Unplug the O2 sensor
Unplug the boost sensor
All should trigger their respective codes pretty readily.

yes, as well as when you check them.

No response from check engine light.
All other idiot lights seem to function o.k.
How would I check for problem?
Thanks for interest Ted.
