Question Integrity of stock alarm?

i just reread my owner's manual. It says that the stock alarm has a starter kill. How effective is Mazda's version of this? I heard that quite a few FC's get stolen even with the alarm armed. I know, I know. I shouldn't expect that much being that it's a factory alarm. Just wondering how good it is?

well while the alarm is going off. you can't start the car even with the key. I've tryed

don't know if you can get around it with hot wireing etc.

my thoughts are though that since the alarm is disabled with the door lock moving. if you were to unlock the door with say a screw driver. if the door unlooked itself the alarm would disable itself at the same time...

I know that you can disarm it by put the key in the door or ignition..but a screwdriver? Now I'm worried(really). i alos heard that people can look at your VIN and go to a dealership saying that they lost their key. But I guess it's different on FC'c(i hope), 'cause my key code is different than those #'s. I'm not going to take any chances, though. I'll take some electrical tape and cover up my last four #'s. I don't know if this will make a difference....I'll the f**ker that steals my rex....

you can get key's from the dealership with the vin #. but they won't unless you can prove it's yours (title, insurance papers etc.) my friend had some cut since when he bought the car it only came with the valet key. however I guess if you worked at the dealership or knew someone....

on the screw driver, it was just an example, I was just saying that if you managed to unlock the door I think the alarm would disable. not saying that you could unlock it with one. it would be pretty hard. the alarm is just a little swtich that turns off and on as the lock inside moves. so no matter what moves it, be it a key or scewdriver. it would disarm. this is just my theroy. as I'd never try to force my lock open with something else for testing...

I don't know about the whole screwdriver thing. You're probably right though. I only reason I doubt that is because once the alarm is armed and you unlock the door from the inside, the alarm goes off. Hell, if you tug on the alternator belt while it's armed the alarm will go of. Thanks for your help.

Are you sure on the starter kill, just tried on my 88 vert and it still starts Whent he honking and blinking is going on...

Of course I have an aftermarket alarm interfaced with the factory one as well

So its not really important, but didnt know it was suppose to have a starter kill...

How to arm stock alarm

Lock the passenger door from the inside. Manually lock the drivers side before getting out. You should hear a beep and the center console alarm light should go on. Close the door while holding the outside door handle up. After a bit, the console light should start flashing indicating it's armed. If you have a 90-91 Vert, then its a light on your center dash cluster that flash's.

A secret way to arm, (shhhhh, its a secret) is to lock both doors from the outside with the key if you have power door locks. Then, if you open the rear hatch/trunk lit, the alarm will arm.

To disarm, you simply open either door with the key.

STOCK ALARMS ARE ****!!!

I'm guess the stock one on the Mazda can be turned right off when you pull the lock off and stick a screw driver in and turn.

I had a 2001 Jetta and thats what happen to me TWICE. They pull your lock and stick a screwdriver in and turn, it unarms the whole car (opens all my windows etc.). The laser cut keys or not if someone wants in bad enough they will get in .

Unfortunately, Mazda key codes are absolute ****. If someone has any Mazda key from about 82-92, chances are they will be able to get into another Mazda car. I know for a fact that I had three cars I could operate with one key. Two of them I could actually start the engine with, while the third I could just open the door.

Believe me, if someone wants your car, they're going to get it, and there's not a whole lot you can do to prevent it. The best protection you can have is full-coverage insurance, which usually isn't that much more than liability only. Even that's a crock, though, as you will NEVER get what your car is worth if you have to make a claim through your own insurance.

By the way on my 88 vert, you can lock and shut both doors and have the trunk open and then shut the trunk it will arm the alarm...

But who ever here said you can wiggle a key from another RX-7 into the lock is right (well on really worn ones you can). You can also on older 79-85 RX-7's hold the handle up and take a long flathead, and stick it under the handle and hit the lock rod and push it up... I know newer Rustangs can be done same way. Dunno on the 2nd gen. but best thing is get a good alarm and an armed guard if you dont want anyhting to happen, otherwise realize only locks stop honest people...

But only reason I still use my factory is just that much more for the ******* thief to get around. I have a full alarm other than that 1... But with the horn honking and every light flashing plus the siren wailing. it might draw a small amount of attention...

The stock alarm is actually a decent alarm when it is going off you cant turn it off with the key in the ignition you have to put it on the door. Just like any other alarm (all aftermarket too) you just pop the hood and pull all the main fuses by the battery and bam its off. I looked my keys in my car with it on once and had touse a clothes hanger to unlook the door. As soon as i unlooked it from the inside the alarm went off and so i put the key in the ignition and it wouldnt turn it off. I dodnt think abou the door so i popped the hood ripped the main fuses out and it quit. It wouldnt be a bad alarm if it had a battery backup under the dash hidden with it. This would be easy to install if you wanted too, backup just hook parrallel to any alarms hot wire.
