Intake Question - Turbo II

Is there anything inherently wrong, other than being so close to hot components, with having a filter directly clamped on to the turbo? It should be noted, also, that I am going to be on a stock setup for now (though I have a FMIC, SAFC II, etc.) until I have money to get my car dyno tuned. I have a buddy with the same setup on his car (GXL with a J-Spec swap) and it seems to be fine but I though I'd ask regardless.

you will still need your afm between the turbo and filter. it should be fine as long as there is enough room

The filter sucks in an enormous amount of heat if it's mounted directly on the turbo. The whole engine bay heat soaks when the car is stopped...Which is why people make a TID so the filter ends up in the stock location, and then build a box around it...

i run mine like that because i am running a Microtech so i do not use a MAF you need to include that into your intake....come over to the house and we can throw something together using some ebay piping.

Stupid idea.

Most of the air in through the engine bay has passed through the radiator. Even at idle the air off the radiator is over 110degF, and will be hotter under load. What do you think that's doing to the engine's performance?

That's why I asked and is basically what I thought, but it's better to know than not to, if that makes any sense.

Hahah, yeah I wouldn't recommend bolting a filter directly onto a turbo.
