intake mods

OK, I see people who get the cone filter adapters for their cars and I see a problem with that. I understand getting rid of the restrictive intake, but isn't the restrictive part the AFM??

So is there any gain really? And if there is, is it any better than you could get from getting an old air box cover and cutting the top off? (this is assuming getting a K&N cone filter or K&N for the stock air box)

I would assume that the restriction from the AFM would cancel out any flow gain from switching to a cone filter.

Yes, you will see minor gains from an intake. More from a TII than an NA though. The AFM is a restriction, but its not like its this tiny tiny hole it in. It does open up.

what you really feel is the increase in throttle response from running a cone filter.

I'd say its definatly dependent upon whether its turbo or not. Plus how far your willing to go with a "custom intake". I have a 3 inch pipe with my AFM and cone filter mounted to the turbo sitting behind the right head light. The car is definatly more responsive and the turbo HOWLS.

My mandrel bent 4" to 3" velocity stack cold air intake for my turbo 2 is almost done. Ill post pics and whatnot when its done. Its turning out super trick......cant wait to share....

I agree, the turbo howl sure is fun!

You need to make sure you get 3 things to maximize your power

1: High airflow
2: High air velocity
3: Cold air

Dont go too big on your piping if you drive and NA, that will hurt velocity. As far as turbos go, less restriction the better....

It's similar to exhaust, you want the most airflow as possible while still maintaining velocity. On stockport rotaries about a 2in pipe is ideal, you'll still have plenty of exhaust flow and still keep velocity so you don't lose that flow (N/A of course).
