intake manifolds question...

Hey guys,

I did a search and was not able to find out anything specific....what is needed to put the FD intake on a FC. Ive heard of it being done and that it takes some work but there is some type of adapter for it. Is there a link or something that could show me what it takes and whats involved with it. Thnx.

There is an adapter somewhere out there. The problem with doing this is that the 3rd gen intake ports are physically higher in the engine since they slope downward. Mazda did this so the intake manifold didn't have to turn as sharp. All of the other rotaries have their intake runners entering in straight from the sides instead of pointing slightly downward. If you adapt the 3rd gen manifold directly to a 2nd gen engine (turbo I'm assuming) then there will be a really nasty bend in the adapter which will cause turbulence. The easier thing to do is to adapt the 3rd gen upper manifold to the 2nd gen lower. this is quite easy to do. There is a little port matching and 2 bolt holes that need to be modified but nothing that can't be done in an hour or so with a die grinder. Since the 3rd gen throttlebody is much larger and the tps is different, I hope you are running a standalone ecu.
