Question intake gone after AFM - will it run

ok, went to reassemble my car went to bolt down the air box, and it cracked down the side, and bottom of the box....., i took it apart, and realized that i had a quickly degrading CARBOARD filter.... the car has been down and out for about 6 months now....i am trying to find out if it will run. so, will the car run without airbox and filter (if it does run i will get a good filter)

Um, no. DO NOT run the car with out an air filter. If you don't want to get an aftermarket filter, I have a stock air box, with almost brand new filter sitting in my garage I would sell ya for cheap. Like I said, don't just fire up the engine with no air filter. It will run, but crap will get into your engine, damaging it. If the box is cracked, it will run, but really poorly, as you will have an intake leak.

An intake leak must be behind the AFM. Anyway air can get into the AFM would not be considered an intake leak. If you stabbed your cone filter with a knife that would not be an intake leak just a real dumb thing to do. Rico was right in saying do not run the motor without a filter, but if you just want to see if it will run, and don't plan on driving it then you could just wrap a paper towel around the AFM hole and test away. Just don't get anxious and take it for a lil test drive. If the car is sitting still and you have some sort of breathable cloth, that won't get sucked in, blocking the AFM, then you should be O.K.
