Insurance rates

I am 18 years old and just bought a car from tmak, but the thing is, insurance is crazy for an 18 year old. do you guys happen to know of any insurance companies that'll give out decent rates?

preferably below 2K a year...

does it seem impossible? god i hope not.

No, unless you get the car under your parents.

I am 17 and I have State Farm insurance. It is something like $650 every 6 months, or $1300 a year. I drive a 1991 convertible Rex and insuring myself to drive that was CHEAPER than insuring me on a '96 Toyota T100 or a '94 Jeep Grand Cherokee (parents cars)! Maybe they do not know what an RX7 is?

I also get the two 10% discounts that they offer. One for good grades and one for taking Driver's Education.

I just moved 6 miles, from a town of 65000 to a town of 25000. It halved my insurance (850 to 460 - 12 mths). I'm 29, same insurer for 4 years (Nationwide), no tix or accidents.

I was amazed at the difference. I thought it would be more, as my 1-way commute went from 2.4 to 12 miles.

Nationwide has always been cheapest or near cheapest whenever I do my yearly renewal survey.

$856 every 6 months with an accident and a couple (about 3) speedign tickets, and 2 other moving violations (driving past 1 am when I was 17, and not having my contacts in one time) I'm not sure if they added another traffic control violation.

Progressive BTW

I tried twice to get a qoute from Progressive and got nothing. I stuck with State Farm (IMO, they are the absolute best) and pay $800/year for full coverage on my TII. I am 24 with no major accidents or tickets recently.

if I don't inform the insurance of my tickets how do they find out about them? is there a driving record they look up? because a friend of mine said she paid a really really cheap rate, and that her tickets didn't show up with state farm, because she just didn't tell them about them... is she crazy?

thanks
rocky

i too need insurance

Well if you want an upfrotn quote, you will have to try to give them as mcu info as possible. Yes they eventualy look up your record (There is no way i would remember all my tickets.)

BTW soem agencies dont bother to look up your record when its time for a renewal.

Maybe your friend jsut go lucky.

The fact that they ask, and appear to take your word for it, means they probably can and do!
So think about this. If you lie to an insurance company (applying or claiming) and they find out, they will cancel your policy, effective immediately. No second chance, you're down the road son. This information then goes on a database accessible by all the other insurance companies. When you apply somewhere else, they'll ask if you've ever had a claim declined or a policy cancelled. If you say yes, they'll decline your application. If you say no, they'll check and find out you've just lied to an insurance company again. They'll then cancel your policy. Do you see where this is going? Basically, if you make one dishonest or fraudulent move with an insurance company, you'll never get insurance for anything again. Ever...
Also, people who lie to insurance companies are one of the reasons insurance is so expensive.

but i'll stick with allstate...the other companies offer me like 3-5K a year. i thought it was crazy. imma ask allstate about the 10% off with good grades. i never heard about that.

try and come to RI (home of corruption) I'm 21 perfect record and pay $380/month ($4500) for "state min ins" from Progressive (one of the few that are cheap in RI) and the coverage is so minumum that if i hit a newer civic i will probribly pay like a mother f*cker...

Ohh yea my car is non-turbo (or so it says by vin# )

Progressive has typically been $200-$300 more a year than anyone else every time I get a quote from them.

FC~Crazed you might try Ensurance (www.esurance.com) being brokers rather than a insurance co, they shop around for the best quote.

I have saved a lot of money with them, you might see if they will isure in your area.
