I have noticed while driving around my insturment lights will be dim..then all of a sudden get bright. It goes back and forth. It doesn't have any pattern. I mainly notice it when it gets brighter. I am thinking it may be a battery or alternator problem. Maybe the voltage regulator in the alternator. but that is just a guess. What do you guys think?

If nothing else on the car is fluctuating, you'll need to resolder the connections in the cluster. I need to do this myself, my lights and clock only work when they feel like it.

Do you know how to resolder? If so would you be willing to re solder mine?

 

could also be a dirty dimmer switch, try removing the headlight switch and spraying the insides with contact cleaner.

 

Ack, I thought it said idiot lights. The instrument cluster dimming is the headlight switch. My car also needs THIS done as well. I have to slap my switch to get the lights to come on.
