its possible, I dont know how many people have done it though. you would have to splice the wires between the 88 connector and the 89 cluster's connector. the tachometer and the speedometer would be off a little. it would probably be pretty easy to get the other little guages to read accurate.

if your doing it for looks, it might be easier to find those indiglo faces, I think those look pretty good

yeah that's what i want to do,install the indiglo gauges but i like better the 89 cluster than the 88, and another thing, the 88 connectors are the same to the 89 or do i need to rewire the whole thing?.

Thx.
Max.

Been covered before... the search function can be found in the upper right hand corner of this page.

The lowdown is that the harnesses are not the same. It will require using a 89+ cluster harness, or moving pins on the S4 harness to make it compatible with a S5 cluster

you can i guess but think about this! Your 88 cluster says that your tachs revs up to 8000rpm, an 89+ will say that it revs to 9000rpm. thats problems number one. Number 2 is: your fuel guage and tem gauge are in opposite spots! but it still might work. meh give it a try i say, just dont try and rev it to 8500. you might blow the welds on the intake(lol stupid FnF). peace

dunno if this would be a problem but the fuel tanks are different depths and could read wrong.

i can definately understand liking the guage cluster better.......thats why i hunted down an S5

So it would be easier to get the 89 harness as well.

Maybe i didn't clarify......i just hunted down my S5 GTU........the whole car

I don't think yer gonna be able to just plug in the 89-91 cluster harness right in. i think you will still have to splice wires.
have you ever seen the under-dash harness? forget trying to swap the sucker.

unless you don't mind splicing wires then i would just keep the ones you have and throw on some indiglos.
Don't think its gonna be worth yer trouble

You don't have to splice wires at all, you just have to move pins.
