Question Instructions on wiring up a 12A distributor on my FC Vert

I have a 1988 FC Vert,,,
Its running a 45mm Weber Sidedraft carb... it runs great.
I want to install the 12A distributor and race wires but I am looking for the instructions on how to wire it up using the stock Trailing Coil.

Has anyone seen a thread on this type of mod ?

I have seen other cars with this type of setup but I want to do it myself.. I am pretty good with tools and common sense logic stuff but i would like to know if there is someone out there that has done this.

Really easy. Grab a copy of the 1st gen Haynes manual or factory service manual. It contains complete wiring diagrams. The dizzy drops right in and then all you need to do is wire 12V to the coils via the ballast resistors (basically).

An excellant downgrade for any 2nd gen.

Downgrade huh ?

The car performs better now with the weber than when it had the Holley or even when it was EFI... remember that its a vert and it weighs so much more than the coupe...

with the weber i have more low end torque and quicker response..

Now i need to use the dizzy and wires for better performance...

I am still waiting on some instructions...

I don't know the condition of your old EFI and what could have been wrong with it...

with the weber i have more low end torque and quicker response..
With that manifold runner length and what appears to be missing 5th/6th ports sleeves, I would have to see a dyno for proof.

Do you reallly think that you will get the same spark energy on a stock 12A ignition system as on a stock 2nd gen ignition system? Not even close, especially if it's the even older (as I had on my '78) points system. It's very hard to beat the stock 2nd gen system, especially with something as archaic as a dizzy.

I am still waiting on some instructions...
What more do you need to know then the wiring diagram? It's a really simple system. You just feed it 12V when the ignition is on, and it takes care of the rest. If you take a look at the wiring schematic, you will be surprised how little there is to do.

...search around the 1st gen section for 2G DLIDFIS...

...the 1st gen guys have been using our coils as an "upgrade" for a little while...

...make sure you note the ballast resistor; and take a look into the transistor trick or whatever...

...I plan to do the same thing w/ a 4port ITB setup, I just haven't gotten really in-depth with it...

Whats wrong with carbing an fc?
Grab a 45 weber, a jacobs FC1000, a nice coil, and a 12A distributor.
just add velocity stacks.

bells and whistles suck, just stick with the keyring.

That's not because you have a Weber, it's because you didn't know how to fix the (probably simple) problem with the EFI.

Now i need to use the dizzy and wires for better performance...
Exactly how do you think a dizzy is going to give you better performance?

Simple, they've all been replaced with superior technology a long time ago. Carbs are for those who either aren't allowed EFI (racers) or don't understand it.

If you think EFI is "bells and whistles", it's pretty clear you belong in the second category above...

- I finally got the 12A Dizzy hooked up on my vert and its neatly done...
- I am using the trailing coil and i have seen it used on other cars so i followed suit...
- The 5th & 6th port sleeves are in it but not functional as of yet since I have to get a small tube welded to the header to create the forced vacuum so the actuator will move the sleeves.
- I am using my stock F.I. Fuel pump and to regulate the pressure I went with what CLR Motorsports recommended to use ; a MALPASSI Fuel Pressure Regulator.. simpy the best. at 3.5- 4 psi into the carb.. MPG is down to 11 but the HP has increased with this Weber setup.

(Edit...To remove ridiculous 2 megabyte signature)

Wow, I bet the 500HP t70 powered vert in your sig gets better mpg than that!

This is how I did mine (turbo) but most people around here that use carbs use the same setup turbo or not...

12A turbo distributor (GSL-SE will do) I just had it laying around...
Rplaced the modules with 2 msd 6a's (One for each side)
Two Blaster2 coils
MSD wires.
Easy setup and will work great...

And please don't start saying that this is an old post... It was in the new posts today... LOL...

I've been trying to make up a DLIDFIS system for my 91. The motor was blown and the EFI scrap so I have a "new" 88 N/A engine. I followed the diagrams of jeff20b and have a distributor from an 85, three J109 igniters, and three Blaster II coils. The igniters are mounted on the heatsink and almost all the wires are run. I need to pick up a keyed 12v source for the coils. Looking at the wire diagrams I find some wires hot with Ig-1 and some with the start position. Am I over analyzing or do I need a source that would be hot in BOTH positions? Has anybody got one of these waste spark systems running in an FC?
