installing racing seats

Has someone done this before(im sure they have). I bought some mazdaspeed racing seats, Im looking for instructions on how to install theses. They came with the universal sliders. Will these just bolt on to the existing base? diagrams or pics would be nice. Thanx

Ive done a search and cant find anything on this, please help!!

You bought knock offs or genuine Mazdaspeed?? If knock offs came with brackets and are universal, you may need to modify it to bolt it down to the base. Usually genuines does not come with sliders/brackets since it's made for a specific car.

Info about ebay knockoffs and how to mount them: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...highlight=ebay

Is there an official online mazdaspeed store? or catalogue?

When I was at mazda, they didn't have anything it seemed...

The ebay Mazdaspeed knock off's would require custom brackets, to use the stock mounting holes and/or stock sliders.

Get a couple of 2"x 3/16" (or thicker) steel bars, mount the stock sliders to those, then mount the seat to the steel bars. Pretty straight forward... shouldn't take more than an hour to make.

Thanx Icemark and everyone else. Sounds pretty easy. Theyre really nice and comfortable, i bought them from a guy that works at x3 racing in Calif. They cost me 138 plus 150 for shipping took about 5 days to get to Vermont. I have a oic but i dont remeber how to post pics, havent been on here since fall. I store my car in the winter here to keep it in mint condition.

here is a bunch of pics of how I mounted a sparco onto my honda, its very simple.

Ive recently done the same in my '87 Sport and it was easy enough, but the holes had to be countersunk (recessed) so that the bolt heads didnt interfere with the other parts. to make sure it was strong enough, I used thicker barstock since I had to recess the bolt heads. if you use all steel parts then you can weld onto the stock sliders and not worry about the recess for the bolt heads, it would even get the seat lower if you used a sidemounting type of bracket instead of bottom mounting like I did.
*the dimensions on that page's blueprint are for a honda civic seat setup,m do not copy those measurements for the FC setup, its longer IIRC and the bolt holes need to be in different spots to use some of the factory slider's bolts...

yea i looked at those didnt really like the style. Anyway does anyone know how many inches are between the 2 OEM sliders?

gerbraldy 03-21-05 05:18 PM

Can't you just remove the oem sliders and brackets and bolt them to the new seat?

well, you'd think you could do just that... but theyre all different... kinda sucks.
the base mounts are even different between recaro vs. sparco vs. corbeau vs. bride...

That doesnt mean theyre mazdaspeed that just means they have the same bolt holes. Real mazdaspeed seats are 3x that cost. Let us know if it all works out when you install it. Im very interested.

bah, TII seats are so damn comfortable and supportive that I'll never bother with racing seats.

jgrts20 03-26-05 07:36 AM

I use steel bars, and most home depots have them

Home Depot, didnt think of them. Oh heres the pics of the specs for use with the OEM sliders.

jgrts20 03-31-05 06:24 PM

ok, i have the drivers side seat in. Now how the hell do you get the pasenger seat in, one side is set higher in OEM design.

You'll need to space up the passengers outside rail so that it is at the same height as the inside rail.

drewl 04-01-05 12:15 AM

i used spacers to install my passenger seat. now it's rediculously higher than the driver's seat. oh well, i never sit in that seat :)

jgrts20 04-01-05 03:34 AM

thanx, i kinda figured that. Just want a base to go by!! But they look very nice(at least the driver side one does right now).
