installing racing seats
Has someone done this before(im sure they have). I bought some mazdaspeed racing seats, Im looking for instructions on how to install theses. They came with the universal sliders. Will these just bolt on to the existing base? diagrams or pics would be nice. Thanx

Ive done a search and cant find anything on this, please help!!
|
You bought knock offs or genuine Mazdaspeed?? If knock offs came with brackets and are universal, you may need to modify it to bolt it down to the base. Usually genuines does not come with sliders/brackets since it's made for a specific car.

Info about ebay knockoffs and how to mount them: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...highlight=ebay
|
Is there an official online mazdaspeed store? or catalogue?
When I was at mazda, they didn't have anything it seemed... |
The ebay Mazdaspeed knock off's would require custom brackets, to use the stock mounting holes and/or stock sliders.
Get a couple of 2"x 3/16" (or thicker) steel bars, mount the stock sliders to those, then mount the seat to the steel bars. Pretty straight forward... shouldn't take more than an hour to make. and jgrts20 please fix your signature... 6 lines maximum... you currently have 11+ lines. Fix it before a admin sees it and deletes it without warning. |
Thanx Icemark and everyone else. Sounds pretty easy. Theyre really nice and comfortable, i bought them from a guy that works at x3 racing in Calif. They cost me 138 plus 150 for shipping took about 5 days to get to Vermont. I have a oic but i dont remeber how to post pics, havent been on here since fall. I store my car in the winter here to keep it in mint condition.

here is a bunch of pics of how I mounted a sparco onto my honda, its very simple.
http://homepage.mac.com/owen_the_soy...toAlbum14.html Ive recently done the same in my '87 Sport and it was easy enough, but the holes had to be countersunk (recessed) so that the bolt heads didnt interfere with the other parts. to make sure it was strong enough, I used thicker barstock since I had to recess the bolt heads. if you use all steel parts then you can weld onto the stock sliders and not worry about the recess for the bolt heads, it would even get the seat lower if you used a sidemounting type of bracket instead of bottom mounting like I did. *the dimensions on that page's blueprint are for a honda civic seat setup,m do not copy those measurements for the FC setup, its longer IIRC and the bolt holes need to be in different spots to use some of the factory slider's bolts... |
and make sure to masure twice, and onlu cut once ;)

yea i looked at those didnt really like the style. Anyway does anyone know how many inches are between the 2 OEM sliders?
|
Can't you just remove the oem sliders and brackets and bolt them to the new seat?

bah, TII seats are so damn comfortable and supportive that I'll never bother with racing seats.
|

i used spacers to install my passenger seat. now it's rediculously higher than the driver's seat. oh well, i never sit in that seat :)
|
thanx, i kinda figured that. Just want a base to go by!! But they look very nice(at least the driver side one does right now).
|
true mazdaspeed seats cost around 1200.
|
they are knockoffs but they still look damn good, and if they're comfortable why would you want the real thing anyways? unless you care about being made fun of by 20 kids in a Rx-7 forum. I plan to get those seats this summer hopefully.
|
Only reason i probably wouldn't buy these seats (keep in mind, i haven't seen them close up and personal) is the quality of the fabric, and the stitching.. How do they look? Do they look like they will tear easily?
-Justin |
i wouldn't buy these seats or any other safty device off of ebay unless it's a name brand. i wonder how many peices these seats will be in when you get in a accident. personally i will only run eather stock or a racing sancion approved seat just for the peice of mind that when i'm going 120 down the front stright at a road course and something happens like i go into the grass and roll or go into a wall i know that i'll still be seated firmly in my seat.
BTW a local guy had some knockoff brand seat in his car and got sideswiped, he was fine but the reclining lock thing broke and sent the back of the seat to the rear seats... and he really wasn't feeling too well after that. and on the other hand my friend hit some black ice and went sideways into a tibiron at 70mph, he has a FIA approved momo seat and a autopower rollbar and his car was destroyed but he was completly fine and so was the seat (it's in his new car) or and btw sorry for my spelling today, it sux for some reason |
shouldnt be driving the car in the winter anyways, i store mine all winter til the road are definitely clean.
|
Not driving your cars in the winter time is way irrelevant to the speculations of the seats.
I'm not buying these... I'm gonna bite the bullet and get some recaro's or something.. -Justin |
So are the fake mazdaspeed seats off ebay unsafe? Do they meet any standards? I really want to get them since they look good and people say they are comfortable...but if I get hit or something happens I don't wanna get fucked up really bad because of a seat problem. Any thoughts on how safe the mazdaspeed knockoffs are?
|
e-mail the guy and ask if they're DOT certified. That should be good enough. For autocrossing and stuff, there's another ceritification they need to pass.
|
i stumbled upon a really good set of oem seats that'd id love to fit in my FC . . .
http://img113.exs.cx/img113/1807/gre...ontseat1rk.jpg http://img113.exs.cx/img113/648/351b4zv.jpg you see recently my girlfriend went out and bought a 2000 Celica GT and those seats are factory . . comfortable as hell and look great and they have to be safe, they come in a production car . . . my other option is RX-8 seats, but i can't find any with out airbags or leather . . . i like those celica seats much more than any of the racing seats available right now (and i dont race . . . soooo) :bigthumb: hope they fit if i get them . . . |

I'm pretty sure it's been determined that rx8 seats wont fit in the fc correctly. Something about them being too wide. |
