installing purge control valve (searched)

I'm trying to install my purge control valve in my '87 GXL. The previous owner of my car removed the whole rats nest, so I'm trying to restore part of it at least. I have 2 questions about how to do this.

1) Based on the vacuum diagram, it looks like there's 2 vac nipples on the back of the dynamic chamber that go to the purge control valve. I can locate these fine, but which one goes where? The vac diagram is too vague.

2) The purge control valve also has a short line that goes directly into the oil filler neck. I see where I think this is supposed to go, but theres already something connected to it, the charcoal canister. Is the charcoal canister supposed to go there? How am I supposed to hook them both up? Is there another port I'm not seeing?

About the lage nipple on the bottoom of the purge control valve.........................that filler neck has two large nipples on it if memory serves. One to the charcoal canister and the other to the purge valve. One of those nipples is located at the very BOTTOM of the filler neck and one other up the neck a bit. The BOTTOM of these two goes to the charcoal canister. The other one up a bit higher goes to the bottom of the purge control valve.

Acturally that nipple that is large and I claimed to be at the bottom of the filler neck..................I think that nipple is actually swaged into the intermediate housing just below the filler neck/tube. See if I'm right now.

Thanks for the info, it really helped. I think I found where the charcoal canister is supposed to go, its not right on the oil filler neck, just off it. the PO covered it in duct tape which made it difficult to see.

So about the vacuum hoses, can you help with that? Does it matter which one goes on either side?

Yeah, I understand what your talking about with the two smaller hose. The two nipples on the throttle body lead to different sources. One source I believe is from just prior to the throttle plates and the other just after the throttle plates. Which is which and which goes where....................maybe later in the day I can figure it out if someone else has not already answered.

Page 4A2 of the onliine series four non turbo FSM shows the path of each in a schematic.......but no clue as to which nipple on the throttle body is which. You can enlarge that picture with Adobe and follow both paths ....sorta.....but can't tell which is which on the throttel body.

I've a spare throttle body I can look at later in the day if someone does not answer you question.

It SEEMS the small nipple on top of the Purge valve goes to the passage in the throttle body that leads to the source prior to the throttle plates.

The passage prior to the throttle plates would be described as follows.....................looking into the throttle body towards the throttle plates. There should be a quarter inch hole in the middle of the throttle opening and that is the source of air. You could blow smoke into that large quarter inch hole and see which of the two small nipples the smoke comes out of.

CORRECTION: I just went out and looked at a spare body. The top nipple on the throttle body leads to a passage prior to the PRIMARY throttle plate. There is a TINY hole just before the primary plate and I blew into the top nipple on the body and that is where it leads to.

So the TOP nipple on the body leads to the TOP nipple on the Purge control valve. Blow up the picture on page 4A-2 and you'll more or less see what I mean.

And the bottom nipple on the body goes to the bottom nipple on the purge valve.
