Installing freeze plug on housing

Hi,

I'm preparing to block the coolant passages on the rotor housing. The engine is already in the car and I don't want to remove it. I would like to know the best way to block theses.

I know that you can put 20mm freeze plug. I have already tried to install freeze plug last summer but the shock tower was to close to hammer it enough hard to squeze the freeze plug in the hole. I would like to know how do you process when the engine is still in the car?

Another alternative would be to use 1/2 npt plugs but they need to be tapped and that would probably create debris in the coolant system. Could you just drain the system a few times to make sure that the system is clean?

Thanks,

Alex

They have a block off plate located at the t2 LIM just for this reason!
Are you running it as a NA engine? If so - there isn't any passage for it on the NA manifold - just put an O-Ring on it and put it in - that is how mazda block off the front rotor housing coolant passage.

I also feel it is a good way for me to get rid of any air bubbles I may have on the rear of the system with that too - as I don't have a heater or a rear iron nipple.

if this is a T2, use a split air blockoff plate and block it off at the manifold. Save yourself some work.

This is on a 13B-RE engine with the 13B-RE LIM. When I rebuilt the engine I used TII rotor housing. I don't think I can use a block off plate on this engine.

http://www.pineappleracing.com/index...PROD&ProdID=49 is probably your best bet with an upside down socket and somehow hammer it flat... if you are worried about that - you can always put an oring on it? what does the surface of the 13bre lim look like?

I found that link the other day. There is a video but it doesn't work anymore. I wrote to pineapple to fix it, I hope it's going to be back online soon.

I don't remember what the 13bre lim surface looks like. I didn't dissamble the engine yet. I only remember that I have tried to install 20mm freeze plug last year with the engine in it and I have not been able. Maybe not all the 20mm freeze plug are the same size.

In your scenario, I believe your best bet would be to look at where that coolant port goes to - and check the distance of the bolts for it. I would be more than happy to measure mine so you would know if a standard T2 block off plate would work for your application... Since the motor is already in the car - it might be easier to run a block off plate than trying to hammer something in that you cant fit a hammer on!
