Installing a clutch pedal, help!
I need some help, or information on installing a clutch pedal, like are the holes for the clutch pedal already under the dash, or do I have to drill them? Secondly, does anyone know of a place that sells a kit with the cylinder/pedal/bushings/release cylinder/etc? Thanks for any info!
any more info?
are you going from auto to 5speed?
if so, i can tell you what I did to w/ my friends 240sx (never done it on a RX-7, but it should be the same)
had to get a manual brake pedal 1st b/c the auto one was bigger
then, had to drill holes in firewall to mount pedal, all the other stuff(master clyinder and lines) mounted up where they were supposed to
most places will sell the extras you need, like mazdatrix or your local dealership, or junkyard
maybe someone else will tell you exactly what you need. people on here have done that before i think

Woo, do you have a website or something with the info? Or do you have it all just tucked away for when someone like me rolls around?
I am going to turn it into
a website soon. I just finnished it and the car is now finaaalllly running-with some bugs to work out. I hope to have the site up by feburary.
This car has 214 thousand on it. Now new engine and exhuast fuel injectors-christ, alot. But I am so devoted to this car.
Anyway,
a short list extends beyond what was previously mentioned.
First the cars wiring harnesses are grounded a little different.
and the electrical connectors are physically differenent. That's why that other guy couldn't get his reverse lights to work.
For the most conveince I would change out the harness. I tried to rig it, but its just easier to spend an hour replacing the left side harness.
And the body mounts for the tranny are indeed different. But I fixed that the cheapest with a solid quater inch steel plates, a drill press, and a 20 ton hydrolic press. I might take it back out and weld it when I get better at welding, instead using of big *** bolts and the mounting harnesses from both trannys.
The gear differentails are indeed different. But not by much though. Manual runs 4.1 and auto's 3.9's....As my engine is getting stronger and stronger with breakin, I haven't noticed too much of this difference. But then again I haven't taken her past 80 yet.
The drive shafts are also different in length.
What's the situation? Just can't part with the Auto's body or amenities?
If i were you, I Might just consider finding a manual with a totally crapped out motor. And instead of swapping all that other crap. Just swap the motors out.
But If you need pictures, and some pointers, I got em.

Well, the wiring harness I could take the time to replace, and I have a limited slip 4.3 rear end in it already, it doesn't have a motor or an automatic tranny (anymore!) I'm planning on dropping a jspec into it. Is this just a partial wiring harness for the transmission itself, or does this run through to 50 other things?

Ive done a five speed conversion, and if you can live without reverse lights than dont bother replacing the harness... I dont seem to mind not having them... you could probably just wire in a switch that you could flick when you want to reverse if it really bothers you... but i didnt have any problems with my switch...

Thanks for the info, I might just do that instead of going through the trouble, that or I'll rig up the reverse lights somehow, I'll manage!

The harness I think has the oil pressure, and level sensors. Reverse lights, fith gear switch, starter wires and a few other minor stuff. The major difference is how the circuits are routed.
When I was trying to rig it, I had to use a volt meter to find how the stater was cuircuted to the main relay, because its a little differen't. After about a million years and electrical contacts later, I just gave up and replaced it, and still had to rig the harness a little bit for the main relay. So the harness route is the way to go for less agro'.

I guess I'll either replace the harness or just go without reverse lights, wonder how difficult it will be to make some mounts for it. Is it just the crossmember that needs to be modified?
