Lightbulb Installed the T04E t4/t3 turbo

Hey earlier I asked for some help on clearance problems with my set up.... Using my stock manifold and T04E wheel and housing, nobody helped me out!!! But, I figured it out and am gonna share.. I have a fc engine in my 91 vert ... First I bough a rebuild kit with new backing plate and comp wheel and new shaft.. I had them balanced for $25.00 and I bought high heat piston rings and 360 degree thrust washer... The whole kit cost $350.00. I went home and hot washed the bearing housing and manifold, painted and buffed the surfaces with 2000 grit paper.. Knocked off the scuff.. put my turbo together... it was easy!!! next I had my oil lines and water lines manfactured at a local hose shop bought all the correct ID!!! fittings... that is a must!!! using the turbonectics flanges i put my steel braids on!!! very cool looking... next I removed the front housing and took off about a !/8th of inch off the lip for clearance and I bought a RB exhaust flange to use as a spacer, pluss bought longer exhaust studs to help with clearance... The thing looks huge and awesome under the hood!!! just wanted to share! oh yes shave some off the bolt heads that hold the bearing housing to the manifold. only on the water side, only two!!! I am running a microtech lt8 , 850/550 injectors, walbro fp, aem fpr, 3 inch from the turbo back no cat, only missing the front mount intercooler.... and yes it sets pretty on 17x7 enki wheels. black turbo hood on a red vert body!!! CYA , just wanted to share my experience

Yep, It runs Took it to the dyno on Sat, Put out 375whp, need to install a fmic.... it doesnt look at all frankstein, It looks really cool... I will put some picks out as soon as I get done with afew more mods. I used braided lines on everthing. you cant see where I grinded the housing it sets close to the lower intake and I smoothed it off with 80 grit and worked up to 220 grit. I hit 20 psi in seconds and the power doesnt stop the turbo doesnt quit like the stock one did. It spools really nice and hits hard at 4000rpms and stays through the rpm range I was up to 150mph on the dyno at 7500 rpms. It was scarey. I plan on going back this Satturday for more tuning. Later, brent

Well I have a microtech, 3 inch exhaust no cat, monster port job, ported intake housing, lower and upper, running no split on my timing and a number of other things done to it.... I am a machinist by trade so I do my own porting and put my engine together not too hard to do as long as you have the background... Hey you dont have to have 1600's to do what I did.

So you're still saying that without a front mount and with 550/850 you put 375 to the ground, eh?

What 'goodies' are we supposedly too poor to afford? I'd love some of whatever special sauce you use to make those bullshit numbers.

With jacked up fuel pressure and the 850cc injectors, I believe it is possible to put down 375. The duty cycles have got to be in the low 90's at least though; not very smart.

Man, First the porting took forever I wanted everthing big and smooth including the exhaust manifold I matched the ports of my intake with the ports on my engine and took apart the upper and really went to town on everything with my rotary files and stones and smoothed everthing did a partial tb mod, put aftermarket coils on with a cdi to run 0 split. Since I am waiting to but fmic until I get from San diego can you answer this can mount my stock IC on the front get more power and is really worth my time. It would help me prepare for the fmic.

375 at the wheels is ~450 at the flywheel. I don't see it happening. RX7.com's fuel chart begs to differ, too.

BDC put down 4xx rwhp with 4 x 720's and higher fuel pressure. A 550/850 combo is only 80cc's less fuel than what Brian ran.

Hp = hot spark, air temp, water temp, timing, fuel, air and compression and flow..... I am old school I dont believe in just adding more fuel and air to me alot more is involved, I popped my first fc in 20 hrs because of wrong fuel and air mixture, Listen I have nitro on sand rails and blew up a engine or two until I got everthing right...

If you're going to get a front mount in the immediate future, I'd say putting the stock IC in the front would be a waste of your time. It is effective, but you're just going to have to redo it in a month, right? Nobody wants to do that.

...Ok, I see where you apologized. I had started my first post a couple hours ago before you said it and didn't look at the thread again. An oversight on my part.

What compressor wheel are you using? What turbine wheel? I see you're using the stock manifold.

How much torque did you put down? What were your air intake temps wiith the stock TMIC? Had to be sky high even at the less-than-375rwhp you had to have been making.

Thanks Racer for backing me up, Hey man I have been around the block a few times in race cars, my dad taught me eveything about VW's and racing them I seen my father put together 400+ vw engines and I assisted as I grew I am now in my thrities and I have sime experience, I first seat dynoed this car. I enjoy rx7's just as much as vw's. I like strange engines, you can get more hp out of them than a regular old honda or american cars

My air temps were pretty good in the morning when it was cool but even as I approached 325 hp I was pushing 65 on the microtech and when I reached 375 I think it was smoking at 85 to 90 that was my last pull, he adjusted the times the loads on the injectors and we finally got it into matrix mode. I think the comp wheel is a 46 or 57 and I cant remeber what alamo turbocharges said the other one was. I got the receipt out in the garage. I will have to get it out and examine it to tell you for sure.. I didnt use my stck housing I used a 60 ar and I used a 360 degree thrust and high heat piston rings. I ported the **** out of my waste gate and welded a 54mm valve head that I took out of one of my vw heads that had cracked under pressure. I set my manual boost control up so I could hit 17 to 20 psi, what was weird is I thought that I would run lean but I never got over 12.5 afr at anyone time it stayed pretty juicey...
