ok so the other day i went to a drift event and saw a s13 with a rb25 swap cleanest **** ive ever seen... no joke

i could not figure out what it was about the engine but it made me want to have sex.. really bad..

so i thought and thought and thought until i finally decided to look up his car (Nikolay's car) from the pnw. finally found some pictures after looking and looking.

and this is what i saw.

what i realized was the inner fenders are what made this car stand out to me.. so i started looking at the work this garage has done before (UP garage in tacoma washington) and they've done it before on other swaps. i couldnt find anything on a rx7 turbo model, so what im gonna do is something similar, fabricate and weld in some inner fenders like that, and on the left side (facing the engine) im gonna cut a 3" hole and run the turbo intake straight into that chamber, out of the top im going to cut a hole for a ARC air filter and then also a scoop so the air can get to it, heres a example

except opposite side

also im gonna do a v-mount intercooler setup to kinda clean up some of the space at the front of the engine bay where there is currently a radiator, fan, shroud, and belts and crap. at the same time, im gonna seam weld the entire engine bay and repaint it flat white/purple/black/pink and do a full wire tuck.

excited? yes. ready? yes

tomorrow im gonna start measuring and maybe go pick up the metal for it.

heres what im working with now
-aem intake
-full exhaust
-3"downpipe
-750cc injectors
-open wastegate
-koyo rad w/ new hoses
-calsonic oil cooler
-racing beat oil cooler lines
-turbo xs blow off valve (rfl)
-taped intercooler (like sticky tape... ghettttttttooo past owner)
-street port
-ported throttle body
-supposedly rebuilt.. who knows. i dont have papers. runs great though. ill post pics as things progress.
-

heres the rest of my car ps its not that clean, just incredible photography skills. looooootsss of body work to do and needs paint hella bad. i hope to start that pretty soon..
also i have my flame suit on about the pink american racing rims. call it gay, do whatever but i like my car. it stands out. i get the attention i want with it. good and bad.

any questions or comments lemme know.
also i had a question probably gonna sound noobie, but can a fd intake mani fit on the turboii? cause the turboii one is nastttyyy. i either wanna make a new one or put a fd one on.

First, that 240 is SICK.
Second, unfortunately this idea simply won't work with at 13b visually. The reason it looks so good witht he RB is becasue that motor is long as ****, and the fender braces close off the engine bay and frame the motor in a way that is visually appealing. The 13b sits far back in the engine bay and is more of a small square than a rectangle thus the bracing will not have the desired visual affect, even w/ a VMIC.

If the goal is visual, give up now, if those braces serve some kind of performance purpose, perhaps it might still be worthwhile, although I'd suspect getting some real suspension under that car would be of much greater benifit.

Yes. Those wheels ARE gay, and they type of attention they are likely to attract, most would rejoice to be rid of.

Good idea though, perhaps you should look into something more 13b specific that 240 guys would then try to copy when they see you at a drifting event ?

Edit: Yes, teh FD UIM will fit on an FC, more specifically a S5 TII LIM. U will also need certain FD electronics, and you'll obviously have to ditch the tmic.

the hope is to cover most of the blank space with the v mount its gonna be a pretty big intercooler, so hopeeeeefully it covers the front half. the intercooler should be about the length of the radiator, and 1ft tall so it should go all the way back to the fan and meet up about even with the block, then the pipes will cover the sides and ill have the turbo propped up to give it some aestheticaly pleasing look also with the fd UIM and a greddy compression tube will give it a little bit more of a look, clean out the engine bay

and yea the inner fender actually provides a bit of support structurally, and it being air tight its pretty cold air, also with a arc air filter its nice.

hopefully itll clean up the engine bay alot

and yea i totally expect lots of flames on the rims, trust me i dont like them either, i hate american racing but the pink looks 10x better then normal ar's that you see on camry's..

and thanks for the info about the manifolds, it'll be something i do at the same time as the welding, cause i plan to finish porting. do you know the specific electornics i might need or know somewhere you can send to find it? appreciate it.

i think im gonna do a sketch of the whole design, measurements and all and see what i can come up with

also the suspension i have is tokiko blue shocks and struts all the way around on stock springs, (not a fan)

coilovers are pretty high up on the list to get. piece by piece.

I don't doubt that you can fill the space, its just that a VMIC still isn't a motor, and it doesn't create the same "OMGWTFBBQ look at that beast in the engine bay" type of appeal. As far as adding structural integrety and providing a source of cold air, go for it!

Those rims look 10x Different than normal ar's that you see on camry's...

I believe you mainly need to worry about the FD TPS and how to wire that up, the swap has been covered pretty thoroughly, w/ several adapter plates for sale to attach the FD uim to an S5 LIM.

If you actually want to enjoy the car, upgrade the suspension first.....really second, after ALL the reliability/maintainance "mods" have been done. Although it will look cool, you will see only minimal performance gains on a stock turbo w/ a Vmount as it simply doesn't flow well @ high psi.

so far i really like my suspension i have on it, its pretty lifted but its super stiff and rigid. i definatly want to upgrade down the road though.

all of the "matinence" mods have been done.
i spent 1.2k in the last month of me buying the car replacing almost everything and i really conteplated doing a rebuild but the previous owner insists its already done along with the previous previous owner. injectors, thermostat, koyo radiator, calsonic oil cooler, racing beat hoses, seals and gaskets, atf fluid trick, plugs and wires, new belts, went through the wiring harness checked all the plugs. ect ect. ive only had the car a month or so. i would do a rb swap or something but i couldnt disgrace the rotary like that

ill probably upgrade the turbo down the line, its on a boost controller with the 750cc injectors at 12psi, runs a little rich (just barely) i hope to be tuning pretty soon and get it running flawless.

yea i really wanna get rid of those rims asap but...
1:no one buys 17" ar rims
2:there pink now hahahahaha

stance will be next after my metal work and body/paint is done and its tuned properly
the inner fenders im def going for cause ive never seen it on a fc. and only once on a 240
definatly welding up a cage
definatly making a new better exhaust
i wanna seem weld the entire chassis.

and alright ill do some research on the fd UIM and see what i can come up with. \

im still doing some designing with all the piping ect and seeing what i can come up with as far as the v-mount goes

I say do it. I'm not a visual guy myself so I would never waste my time or money however it doesn't mean I don't appreciate aesthetics on other cars and I think it wouldn't look half bad.

im really just curious because ive never seen a fc engine designed to LOOK nice, ive seen then built o perform and in the process of that it looks "nicer" but ive never seen one just cleaned up, and so thats my mission. who knows it might turn out to be the new craze in the fc world? lol

this car has been on craigslist a million and a half times and up until i owned it and invested the money it desperately needed it hasnt been reliable/safe to drive. i believe i have a list on the craiglist add of whats done to the car that was needed and ect. i couldnt believe this car after i went through it.. it was such a dissapointment the next day of me owning it and realizing i had hours upon hours of work to do.

thanks ill keep pictures posted, i think im gonna make mock up inside fender walls today.

also i live right on rhedondo. its more federal way area, but when i made this account i was living in north east tacoma by browns point.

no need to hate man, you dont have to believe me. ill pm you when im finished with it and you can let me know what you think. hopefully itll change your mind.

the pink rims electrical tape ect is only temporary. not every one has 3 grand to dump into stance. i had to spend my money on making the car reliable. things will change.

ps the grill is pink to.. lol.

flame all you want guys. for rotary guys theres alot of people on here that take it out on the forums haha. usually fc guys are cool hahah

This will never happen and you don't have a clue why they tubbed the fender wells to begin with. You aren't even aware that you'll have to pull the motor out to do it properly. Give up now before you ruin your car and your bank account.

lol you guys act like im ******* retarded.

did i once say oh yea im just gonna tack some tubbed fenders in.. and in THAT guys scenario he did it for the rims to fit his steering modifications. and yes i understand that NORMALLY thats what its for. OR to fit a bigger engine or wider rims.

Give up now before you ruin your car and your bank account.
what part of this do you think is expensive exactly?
1: thats not a rx7
2: ive pulled engines before
3: i know how to weld
4: i know the guy that has the inner fender well with the rb... its not tubbed, its for support, cleanliness, and a cold air dam,
5: thats why ive already dropped and rebuilt my tranny?

you guys can go ahead and think i dont know what im doing and im not gonna do it...

Keep me informed if you do this and your progress id really like to see this, cuz I want it. i just may do a mock up with sheet metal with out tubbing the fenders, i enjoy how clean it looks. tubbing the fenders would be a bonus.

Don't listen to these *******. I had no support when I did my swap/build but when I fired her up for the first time, it was amazing.
It's now my daily driver, just takes time and a lot of research.
Dig in, but take your time

lol at 7club...

If you can pull it off with the air filter like in the above pic, that'd be hot. Take lots of pics afterwards, I'm curious to see what it will look like done to a FC.

thanks to all you guys supporting me, ill be posting pics before, during and after.
my main focus is going to be the intake of the car because i think thats what will make it pop the most, i was looking at it today and i decided that the inner wells would be 1'6" wide and roll down to the back of the headlight housing. except on the left side it would cut down kinda like the one in the picture, the front interior of the bumper will be fitted with a series of sheet metal plates inside the main air dam pushing all the air toward the intake. the intercooler will be the length of the radiator the pipes will come back along the side of the cooler and run into the turbo outlet.

ive got all the measurements and drawings done, ill scan them and post them up, fabrication should start within the next couple weeks, and then soon after ill pull my engine for mock up if all looks right ill go ahead and begin body work for paint and do a full spray, then the wire tuck, then in goes the engine, setup the v-mount, probably get a few things polished and painted.

ps the rims- I DONT LIKE THEM EITHER, do you think i want american racing rims on my car??? no, i could care less about them. thats why i painted them pink. its gets me attention i like, and i dont care if people flame them. for everyone one person on here that has hated them ive had 2 girls at stop lights ask for my number and say cute rims. i plan on getting real rims, id rather focus on other things right now though there definatly next on my list, along with new seats, new coilovers, and other misc stuff. i have literally owned the car a month.. i just got my tabs for it (check the pics there expired on there haha)... give me a break on all the hate.

hopefully the pics of me rebuilding the transmission shuts up some of the haters...

if not i have plenty of engine build pics if you wanna see them sr's, rb's, b16's, v8's, rotarys, geo metro.. you tell me. i know my **** and i can prove it. so for the guy that said " i dont think you realise you have to pull your engine" trust me im fully aware.

if that doesnt do it for you ill send you pics of my ef i did all the body work on and painted.

i dont know why you guys have so many issues with people doing something different.

hahah you saw nics's s13 and you got inspired..i gotta tell him.

After kickin it with some of the PNW drifters for awhile, dude, anything is possible. You would be amazed at the crazy **** some of the drift community pulls here.

Unfortunately i couldn't make it to Formula D this year so i didn't get to see some of the work the other enthusiasts brought to show, but i can tell you, if you have the heart, passion and stupidity. Do what you want. Id only dog on you if you spend x amount of dollars and come on here and complain that your **** isn't working right cuz you thought you had it covered and cut corners and went ghetto. ROFL

yea i talked to doug from up garage about the whole setup on his car, its pretty sweet, ive only been into the drift scene for about a year now but ive been in cars for about 6. ive been going to more and more events and all that.

and nah, i do things right, i dont cheap out and i definatly spend dollars on things that need it first. ill try to make some real progress at it this week and get up some good pics i know that cutting bending and welding the inner fenders is step one. i think ill be able to pick up some good metal for it in the next couple days and get out to the the shop and start it.ill definatly get my diagrams up tomorrow for everyone to see, i have a couple different ones for each specific thing im doing, one for the inner fender wells, the v mount setup, the turbo manifold, and the inner air dam.

thanks for the support you guys ill be posting a pic or two of diagrams and prep for it here pretty quick. i appreciate all the feedback, im really hoping for something really unique with this whole thing. so far with just the drawings it looks like its gonna turn out really good. i think ill try to condense all the pictures to 4 and do a view of each angle.

back to measuring
