Inoperable Headlight / Engine Cutoff Delayed
Hello,
This is my first posting so please be gentle. I currently own a 1987 rx7 in the base model. It has been runing and operating fine until last night when I got out of work at approximatley 10:30 PM. I started the car up and turned on the headlights. Everything worked except the headlights coming on. I also noticed my volt meter gauge was pegged out. I had a friend lead me home so that I could see. When I pulled it into the garage and turned off the key it continued to run for approximately 3 seconds. I took off the alternator this morning and had it checked out. It was putting out nearly 18 volts. The needle was past the "good" range on the machine. All fuses are okay, including the ones in the engine bay area. Please help!!!!!

With the engine off, turn on the headlights. Try both high and low beams. The headlight fuse is in the engine bay, but you checked that out. I was thinking that if the filiment for the high or the low beam had taken a dump the other might not be burned out. Burnt out due to the altenators regulator going south.
To me it sounds like the voltage regulator in the altenator has gone **** up. Not a great answer to your problem, but it'll do til something good comes along.
EDIT: Insert alternator where I put altenator. CAn't spell worth flip.
