Inner wheel wells

Just curious really but at just over 150k miles the rear inner wheel wells on my FC look a little worse for wear. Considering the fronts are sheilded with a plastic arch liner I'm curious as to how the inner rears should look since its effectively painted bare metal (or would the rears have come with a plastic arch liner too?)

Should it be colour coded to the body colour and then some kind of clear stone chip guard applied or would they have been matched to the front and painted over in black?

I've bought a variety of paints and primers so thought I'd start on the weekend.

Most people just use asphalt undercoating (black). Comes in spray cans and a lot of garages offer the service (at least on this side of the pond), so you can watch it being done before deciding.
