injectors

ok im some what confused i have a 1988 convertible that i picked up from some dude
a few years back maybe in 08 the engine was replaced. which leads me to my question. the motor has red square injectors. my understanding was that these red square injectors only came in 87 and prior rx7s. also that these injectors are low's and my vert came with purple high impedance injectors.

also my ecu is a vert ecu soo... wtf is going on ? i dont see any splices in the wires and the injector clips are also red. does any of this makes sense?

i also have an 88 vert i bought the car from the original owner with all service records he did have the injectors replaced by the mazda dealership prior to me buying it when i dis-assembled to do my rebuild i too found that i also have the red fuel injectors that are low impedence and was also thinking this had more to do with manufacture date than it does model year as my vert has a 1987 manufacture date but i'm not sure about this and my harness and everything matches the injectors as well

Best way to tell is to check the notch on the injector. Square injectors were used for S4, 87 and prior were low impedance and had a centered notch, 88's had an offset notch on the injector. Unclip the harness and check it. Don't get too wrapped up about what color they are supposed to be.

+1 ^. Go by offset. I have about 12 red-orange high impedance 460cc injectors. 4 of these are on my original NA engine from my convertible.
