Initially idles up & down.....

88 GTU.......on initial start up it revs to about 3000 for about 10-15 secs then idles down to about 2000-1000 right afterwards and bounces up and down that range for about 2-5 minutes until finally leveling out at the 700 mark and idleing smoothly. What is causing that? Could a dirty BAC cause that initial up & down idle or is it a poor exhaust system? I love the car. First RX-7, I have done alot of minor exterior things to fix it. I have also put in a new clutch and put all new calipers and rotors on. Only thing I haven't done is my exhaust, still have all three cats on there and it's in pretty ragged condition. Any input would be great.

O2 sensors have nothing to do with idle or startup at all ever. Just a piece of FYI.

My '91 is stalling after it is warmed up and I come to a stop or put the clutch in. It doesn't hold idle at 750, it dies out then it is hard to start, like it is flooded. I wait 10-15 mins and then it starts right up.

Doesn't the o2 sensor determine fuel/air mixture ?
