Info on things to do for old 86

I just bought my first Rx-7. It still run but it need to pass the inspection (i live in Canada, Quebec). I wanted to know what would be good to do on the car to prevent damage and dont waste money on something that dosent work:

The motor still run... but it havent been started very often in the last 3 years.
I couldnt really test the car on the road so i coudnt try the engin and there is an exast leak (in the front) so the sound is not a good indicator.

Is there any product to clean the motor (gas and oil system)? Is there anything that can be done to test the engin to see if it internal are ok? I dont want to waste money on an engin that i would have to be change anyway (it a 86 NA and i could upgrade for a turboII if the engin is not good but i dont feel like watching the car in my backyard for the next 4 years^_^).

How much HP can i get with a NA motor by changing intake and exast system?

Is there anything else that would be good to do on the car that could save it?

Yup, get a compression test done. That is the best way to help determine the health of the engine. As far as upgrades and whatnot, go to the 2nd gen archives and search for 'beefy N/A'

Seafoam. I've never used it, but I hear it can help; search that term on here as well and you can read about the results....
